Head Coach Tim Duryea
It was just a really poor offensive performance by us, really in all areas. Our shot selection, our ball handling, our decision making – it was just a really nervous and poor offensive performance. Defensively, we had some stretches where we were really good. In the second half we made some critical mistakes, but that is not us offensively, it can’t be us. Five assists in a game is not us. Our ball has got to move a lot quicker and a lot better. We were just a really nervous basketball team offensively and it showed. It was a horrible offensive performance.
On Koby McEwen picking up quick fouls in the first half
He was in and out of the flow all night. Sam Merrill wasn’t the usual Sam and missed some looks that he usually makes. Those two are really our guys and our leaders and when they shoot 5-for-19 and make some of the decisions they made, then that will be tough for us to overcome.
On the lower number of 3-point attempts
We talk all the time about not taking tough two’s. In the first half, that is just about all we did. We shot tough two’s, guarded two’s and we were not aggressive enough to create some 3-pointers. When we drove the ball instead of making a play for our teammate or making another pass, we burped up a bad shot. 15 3-pointers are not enough, obviously the percentage was bad, but the percentages were bad because our selection was not good.
Senior forward Alex Dargenton
I can’t speak for everybody, but I was not nervous. I am used to this. I don’t think the guys were nervous, but I just can’t explain what it was. It was just a poor shooting night for us. It was good for us to start off with a little challenge so we can get ready for the other games.
On how Koby going out early disrupted the flow
We expect a lot from Koby. He is a returner and has been producing at a high level. This year the officiating is going to be a little tighter and we saw that tonight. We just need to get into good habits of keeping our hands off and not fouling people.
