Head coach Tim Duryea

Post-game thoughts…

“The thing I’m most proud about is that’s a pretty solid Idaho State team and we made them look like they had a very poor night. They are very well coached and a very tough team that is better than they showed, I’m proud because I thought we had a lot to do with that.

“I was really thrilled with our effort on the boards and how we shared the ball. We didn’t really know how they were going to play us, we figured some type of zone most of the night. Our guys got the ball moving and shared it well. Twenty assists on 34 made field goals is a coach’s dream. That’s the attitude of the players, they like to play together, they play well together and they shared the ball extremely well.

“There were a couple guys that stepped up defensively and took a challenge on. Norbert (Janicek) played well down low against their big guy. We challenged him during half time and told him that we weren’t going to help him as much on defense and he stepped up. The other guy was Shane Rector, he and Telfair go back a long ways. Shane (Rector) took it personal that he would guard (Ethan) Telfair, he did a great job. When (Ethan) Telfair drove, our bigs did a good job of stepping in on the help defense and got him frustrated.”

On coming out strong from the half…

“We played well in the first half but they were hurting us a little bit. We were helping a little bit too much on the pick-and-roll. That left some of their guys a little too open for 3’s. We made a couple of adjustments at half time and helped a little less on the pick and roll. That kept us home a little bit more on their shooters.

“(Ethan) Telfair got going a little bit once, but other than that I thought we defended really well most of the time. The defensive effort was really the catalyst for the offensive effort."

Senior wing Jalen Moore

Post-game thoughts…

“The game went as planned. We came out and we played harder than them. We got stops on defense, we scored well and everyone that played, played well. It ended up being a blow out and it was a great way to end the home streak and get ready to go to Cancun with wins.”

On getting the wins at home…

“It was nice to have three home games in a row, one of them didn’t count but we still have to go out there and play. The other two games we played really well, we played good, quality teams and we beat them both. It feels good to get wins like that at home and then go on the road and play a top-25 team. It’s a good streak to have.”

On passing his dad…

“It means a lot. I told him I was going to pass him when I came here. I think he’s happy about it, we’re both happy about it and it feels good.”

On having depth…

“It’s nice to have a team that has depth. It’s nice to have people coming off of the bench that play hard. We have good quality players coming off of the bench. It feels good being able to go to the bench and know that your backup can come in and effect the game. You always need a good bench to have a good team.”

Senior guard Shane Rector

Post-game comments…

“It was a real good team effort. We came out with a lot of intensity from the last game. Coach stressed coming out with intensity and that’s what we did.”

On if his leg is injured…

“I just had a little LeBron moment, I cramped up a little bit. I got some Gatorade and a banana in me and I was good.”

On battling Ethan Telfair…

“He and I go way back. He’s from New York and I’ve been playing against him since I was eight or nine. We’ve been playing each other since I started playing. It’s a friendly rivalry and it’s always good to get the better of a hometown rival so it felt good.

“I didn’t want to get 25 dropped on me. I came out ready to guard, that’s what I tried to do. I don’t know how many points he had but we held him under his average so that’s pretty good.”

Idaho State Head Coach Bill Evans:

"We played poorly and you have to give Utah State credit. They made shots and obviously we didn't. They're way better than we are right now and it wasn't close. Utah State is the best team we have played up to this point."
