Utah State Head Coach Stew Morrill...
"It was a nice home win. As I told our guys, we have a really hard time getting that quality of opponent to come in. You know the years that it's been since we've had teams from the SEC and PAC-12. It's nice to have them come here and for us to take care of business and get a win. It will probably discourage other teams from coming in, the word's probably already out on this one. When you look at what we had to do to get these two games, it's pretty amazing. Our guys did a really good job. We were concerned about the boards because Mississippi State had been averaging 20 offensive rebounds a game. I think they got six tonight. We out-rebounded them by a large margin. I can't find much fault in our stats, other than the 16 turnovers. They're athletic, they're quick, they cover a lot of ground and they got their hands on a lot of basketballs. We had a number of guys play well. We were able to go to the bench a lot which is positive. The more we can build our bench, the more it's going to help us. Some of those veterans don't like coming out much, but that's ok. They can come out once in awhile. It's good to get some of our guys ready off the bench and they did a really good job."
Senior Guard Preston Medlin...
"It's a great win. They're an athletic team. They're from the SEC, so they've got great athletes. It's a great win for us. In practice this week, we did a good job of getting the scout team pressuring us. We kind of figured it out. When you play a team that pressures like that you have to bring it in and let the point guard get to his position. You have to run the plays hard, set good screens, and that gives you a lot of open shots. I thought our offense was great tonight. We set a lot of good screens and got a lot of guys open so that really helped us. They came out and played good starting the second half. They shot the ball well and we didn't get very many stops. That's the game of basketball. We just kept fighting and ended up doing pretty well."
Freshman Wing Jalen Moore...
"It felt great. I was able to get it going on the offensive end and get some rebounds for the team. I was trying to step up my defense a little bit. It just felt great to be able to be successful. They were pressuring the ball, so I slipped the screen and Marcel was able to deliver it to me. I wasn't expecting it at first, but it got to my hands and I was able to finish it. Our coaches told us they would crash the offensive boards hard, so I was just trying to be aggressive on the rebounds and get some for the team. It was a great win for us."
Mississippi State Head Coach Rick Ray...
"I thought this game was really something. First and foremost, they can shoot, and we can't. We didn't make threes or free throws. The other part is that we're supposed to be this big, athletic SEC team and we couldn't guard them. They beat us up on the rebounds. They got to the free throw line more than we did, and we just didn't compete. That's my biggest disappointment with this team right now. I think we have a false sense of who we are because we didn't look great on offense. We've got to figure out who we really are at this point in time."
