Carroll's 26 Points Pace Aggies To 77-68 Win Vs. Weber State In Home Opener

LOGAN, Utah - Jaycee Carroll scored 26 points on eight of 12 shooting and Utah State held off a pesky Weber State squad to defeat the Wildcats for the second time in a week 77-68 in the Aggies' home opener here Saturday night.
With the win USU improved to 4-1, while Weber State dropped to 4-2 with both losses coming to its in-state rival.
Utah State used a 21-2 run early in the second half to turn a 40-35 deficit into a 56-42 advantage with 12:18 left in the game. Carroll scored nine of USU's 21 points in the run, including a three-pointer and layup at the end of the run.
Carroll, who has scored at least 20 points in four straight games, led a quartet of Aggies who scored in double-figures in the game. Durrall Peterson had 14 points, while Mikel Watscon and Chaz Spicer each added 11 off the bench.
Weber State was led by Arturas Valeika who scored 16 points on six of nine shooting. Valeika also added a team-best five rebounds.
USU shot just 42.6 percent from the field, a season-low, but hit 32 of 37 free throws. Meanwhile Weber State, which shot 54.2 percent in the first half in building a 37-35 halftime lead, made just 34.8 percent in the second half and finished at 44.7 percent.
Stephen DuCharme led the Aggies in rebounding with a season-best eight, while Session added six and Watson pulled down five while handing out a season-high six assists.
USU has now won 13 straight home openers and extended its streak of home wins against non-conference opponents to 15 as well as a regular season non-conference home win streak to 39 consecutive games.
Utah State will travel to South Dakota State on Wednesday, Nov. 29 for its fifth contest away from home in its first six games.
