OGDEN, Utah -
Utah State Head Coach Stew Morrill...
"This is how these games always are - hard-fought, comes down to a few plays. We kind of got knocked on our keisters in the first half. We started out really well and then they just really got going and we couldn't keep them contained. Usually both teams don't play this good of offense because we know each other's systems pretty well. They did a great job of driving us and we had a hard time containing them. We had some guys step up in the second half and we made a few more plays and a few more shots and that was the difference. Kyle Davis had his best game so far as an Aggie. It's only five games in, but he was awfully good tonight. Spencer Butterfield had a great second half, and Preston is Preston. He always does things for us. We'll take it, it's a good road win."
Senior Center Jarred Shaw...
"We just off to a good start. They had a huge run in the first half. We were expecting the run, but we came back and fought tougher and had a good run in the second half. That helped us win."
On Kyle Davis:
"He had what, 18 points and 14 rebounds? He's been looking to redeem himself for awhile now, and what better way to do it than on the road when we were down? He helped us out a lot.
On his aggression in the game:
"Coach just told me to take advantage of when I wasn't getting double-teamed. When I wasn't I looked at the score and looked out for my team. I just played my game and didn't think about it too much."
On the in-state rivalry:
"I'm not from Utah, but everyone around sees it as a big deal and a rivalry. We want to be the best team in Utah, so we took the chip from them and put it on our shoulders. Weber State is picked to win the Big Sky so Coach told us to look at it like an NCAA Tournament game and that's what we did."
Sophomore Forward Kyle Davis...
"I definitely got some confidence during the second half, so that helps. My teammates were finding me, I was in a great position and was able to finish which was positive. We really got it going."
On the rebounding advantage:
"Just effort. It was something we really emphasized in practice the last couple of days, just talking about how well Weber rebounds the ball and how physical they were going to be. We met that and played well and were able to rebound."
On being able to finish and feeling like getting his legs back after LDS Church Mission:
"I definitely took a big step forward with that tonight. My thought was to just try to dunk everything I touched. When you do that, you just seem to go a little bit harder and finish."
On the environment with both crowds:
"It was a fun environment. It was a blast to play with. Weber State had a great crowd and it was fun to be a part of."
On the message at halftime:
"`You better start playing.' It was a good message and we did. They started good at the beginning and we just kept grinding. Credit to the whole team for coming out there and working through the crowd and their pressure defense. It was fun."
On getting the road win before BYU:
"I think it's huge for our team. We've had 20-point wins where we've really taken care of teams, now we've had two road wins that were close and we had to fight for. We're a team that's proving we can play at the end of games."
