USU Head Coach Tim Duryea
“This was a totally embarrassing performance, physically. We got out-toughed in rebounding numbers that I have never seen before. We got totally out-toughed, physically just manhandled, whatever term you want to use for it, physically we got out-toughed.
“The defensive numbers, being where they are, and the rebounding numbers, being where they are – just totally out-toughed. It is really the long and the short of the whole game. We didn’t get to the free throw line enough, which is a sign of toughness. We just got totally out-toughed on the boards all night long.”
On the discussion of rebounding in timeouts
“That is all we talked about. We subbed, we tried different combinations by going big and going small, but it is really all we talked about all night long. Rebound the ball, rebound the ball. In the first half we were hugging Haws and Emery a little too much and not rotating when we needed to rotate. That hurt us a little and turned the ball loose, went to help and they got it on the rim and their bigs cleaned it up."
On the second-chance points
“Unbelievable. The 55 to 31 on the boards and 23 offensive rebounds is the story of the game. We just got out-toughed.”
Sophomore forward Norbert Janicek
“It was a tough loss for us. It is the third game in a row that we’ve lost. It is tough on the team and we need to pick it up and win the next game.”
On the matchup against highly touted bigs over the last three games
“I thought it was a great experience to play all of those teams. I’ve learned from every single game in how I can be better and I’m grateful that I was able to play those games and continue to build my skills."
Senior wing Jalen Moore
“We just got out-toughed and they got more rebounds than we did. That was what really affected the game. We played good defense, but we just didn’t rebound and that is where we lost the game.”
On the final rebounding numbers
“They played tougher than us. I don’t think it was a lack of effort on our part, but they played tougher than us and usually the tougher team will win. They ended up getting more offensive rebounds than us and more possessions than us and that is what really hurt us the most.”
