LOGAN, Utah -

Utah State Head Coach Stew Morrill...

Opening statement...
"Well I don't know whether we had a hangover from the BYU game or what, but we were not ready to play and we got taken advantage of in the first half. That's a good Pacific team, they're veteran, they guard you, they execute, they defended better than us, they ran offense a lot better than us. We panicked, took a lot of bad shots, we got down. Give them a lot of credit.

"We've ridden the roller a little bit. We were up early in the year, and now we're a little bit down. We have to rise up again. We have to get better. We're really having trouble defending. If we don't get better defensively it's going to be a long year. We have to get better defensively. We have a really hard time guarding the ball, we don't help well enough. People just take advantage of us. That's something that's got to come from within. We have to do a better job coaching defense, but that's got to come from within. We have a lot of guys that worry too much about offense. We have to worry more about the defensive end. But give them credit, they played really well. They lined us up and took advantage of mismatches, isolated our five guys and got wide open three's on their pick-and-rolls. They executed really well."

Senior forward Spencer Butterfield...

Opening statement...
"I think we just came out a little bit slow this game, didn't come out as energetic as we needed to. We needed to pick up the intensity a little bit and just kind of carry it throughout the game. We just need to come out with a little more intensity and practice hard this week."

On any carry-over from the BYU game...
"Maybe there was a little bit, but hopefully we're over that now. We need to move on and get to the next game."

Sophomore guard Marcel Davis...

Opening statement...
"We just weren't ready from the beginning. Pacific's a good team, they have a lot of experience. We just weren't ready and we have to be ready at the beginning of every game, and at the beginning of the second half. Just play hard the whole game; we can't just play hard at times during the game. We have to play hard the whole game."

On the physical play of the game...
"We knew they were a big, strong, physical team. The coaches told us that from the beginning. We just have to match their physicality."

Pacific Head Coach Ron Verlin...

On getting his first signature win as the head coach at Pacific...
"It was a good win, that's all I can say. Good win, good battle, good fight. They're a good team, we played well, we're a good team."

On keeping the lead the entire game...
"I think it was a couple of things. For one, we talked a little bit at halftime that we've been here before, what are we going to do about it? We had to do things better than we had done before. We looked at what we do goal-wise and we said `we've got to lock the down here, we've got to do this, we've got to do that, we've got to rebound better. We're going to have a better second half than the first half. I thought we played pretty well in the first half and the second half, at times, I thought they did a great job of getting us spread out. They did a great job in the second half of driving us up and then we did a great job of driving them up and switching our defenses up. Andrew Bock made some big plays, T.J. Wallace had some unbelievable rebounds; six rebounds tonight but some of them were just unbelievable. Khalil Kelley was big time on rebounds down there late. One of the things we've been preaching all week was rebounding and toughness and the other thing was fearlessness. We wanted our guys to play fearless tonight and they did."

On the points in the paint and turnover advantages...
"We did a great job. Andrew Bock and Sama Taku do a great job of taking care of the ball and T.J., and our post guys did a great job. I give our guys a ton of credit, they executed the game plan we had and they just kept going at them. I'm very proud of this group. We'll get a week off for finals and we'll get back next Saturday at home."
