Utah State Head Coach Stew Morrill...
"As far as basketball goes, we need to get a lot better. We're a long way from being a good WAC team. We definitely had some rust, lack of energy, lack of a lot of things in the first half. We responded a little bit in the second half and that was good. We had to play a lot of zone, which I very seldomly use in a non-Division-I game but we couldn't get them stopped. They were beating us off the dribble, they were kicking for threes. I didn't think our defense was great, I didn't think our offense was great. We've got a ways to go. We have to become more of a team that wants to practice, you've heard me say that many times. This team's only got 10 practices until conference play and they need to make the most of them. It was good to get a win. It was great to have Danny in the building. When the actual game gets going, it boils down to trying to play well and try and do what you need to do to be a good basketball team. We've got a ways to go."
Freshman Guard Marcel Davis...
"I just try to come into the game with a lot of energy. I told the guys to get the rebound and `let's go' and that's what we did. All of the bigs rebounded great in the second half and towards the end of the first half when we were getting whatever we wanted on the fast break. I just try to take what the defense is giving me, a lot of defenses key off of Preston (Medlin) because he is so good at attacking the rim and shooting from the perimeter. Preston set up a lot of plays for me tonight."
Western Oregon Head Coach Brady Bergeson...
"Utah State is a standard in the mid-major world. I think they are a program that has personified consistency at a high level. That was one of the attractions in coming here to play. We didn't want just any old Division I school, but somebody that we could count on to execute at an elite level. They got back to their game in the second half. They handled our pressure in the backcourt, attacked the mid-shots and really got us off the glass, which we knew was going to be a problem coming in. We give them a ton of credit and they played really well."
