LOGAN, Utah - TEAM NOTES

• Utah State is 5-1 to start a season for the second time in the last three years.

• Utah State improved to 181-16 (.919) under head coach Stew Morrill when holding its opponents under 60 points and 221-30 (.880) when scoring at least 70 points. USU also improved to 214-19 (.918) at home in this Morrill's 15-year at the helm.

• Utah State is now 83-23 (.783) during the month of December under Morrill, which includes a 70-2 (.972) record at home. The Aggies are now 5-6 (.455) in known games played on Dec. 8, and Saturday's win was USU's second-straight win on the date. The Aggies are now 4-0 this season in games played on Saturday and are also 138-52 (.726) in games played on Saturday under Morrill.

• The Aggies' 57.4 percent (35-of-61) field goal shooting is a season-high, as is the 35 field goals, while the 61 field goal attempts was their second-highest behind 62 field goals against Saint Mary's (Nov. 15)... The 57.4 percent is the highest since 63.8 percent against Oakland in last season's CIT game (March 25, 2012), and the 35 field goals is the most since 37 in that same game against Oakland.

• Utah State also shot a season-high 88.9 percent (8-of-9) at the free throw line, as the nine free throw attempts were a season-low.

• USU's 48 points in the second half were its most in a half this season, topping the 46 points in the second half against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Nov. 17)... The 48 points is the most points scored in a half since 60 against Oakland in the first half of last season's CIT game (March 25, 2012).

• Utah State has posted a double-digit rebounding margin in all six games this season and Saturday night's +22 rebounding margin was the Aggies' largest of the season, and largest since a +23 rebounding margin against Louisiana Tech (Jan. 20, 2011).

• Utah State's 43 rebounds Saturday tied for its second-highest of the season, matching 43 against Weber State (Nov. 24) and behind the season-high 49 against Saint Mary's (Nov. 15).

• USU's 23 assists were a season-high and second outing with 20+ assists, topping the previous high of 21 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Nov. 17)... The 23 assists were the most since 26 against Oakland in last season's CIT game (March 25, 2012).

• The Aggies also tied a season-high with seven blocks... USU has had at least one blocked shot by a starting forward in each of the six games this season.

• Utah State is now 2-0 all-time against Western Oregon, and the Aggies are averaging out-scoring the Wolves by 32.5 points after the 78-42 win on Dec. 29, 2009 in the first meeting.

• The Aggies are now 24-14 (.632) all-time against teams from the state of Oregon, as it is 13-2 versus Portland, 3-1 versus Portland State, 2-6 against Oregon State, 1-5 versus Oregon, 2-0 against Western Oregon and 1-0 against Eastern Oregon, Southern Oregon and Willamette. Western Oregon's 2009 visit to Logan was also the last time that USU faced a team from the Beaver State.

PLAYER NOTES

• Utah State had five players in double figures for the first time this season... The last time that USU had five players in double figures was on Feb. 11, 2011 at home against New Mexico State.

• Freshman guard Marcel Davis scored a team season-high 21 points on 9-of-11 shooting, including making his first three-pointer of the season, topping his previous season-high of eight points on three-pointers alone Saturday night, netting three from behind the arc... His 21-point effort also surpasses his career-best of eight against Santa Clara.

• The last time the Aggies had a freshman score 20-points or more in a game was Feb. 22, 2008 when Tai Wesley scored 24 vs. UC Santa Barbara... Davis also had a season-high in minutes (20) and rebounds (5)... Davis score 13 of his 21 in the second half.

• Junior forward Spencer Butterfield made his first start of his USU career and netted a season and career-high 10 points as well as a season and career-best eight rebounds... Butterfield also dished out seven assists which eclipses his previous career high of three... He played 29 minutes which is a season high... Butterfield also tied his career-high with one block.

• Junior Preston Medlin scored a season-high 18 points... 11 of his total points came in the second half... Medlin also tied a season-high with one block against the Wolves.

• Medlin took the lone charge of the night Saturday, and now leads the team with two charges taken.

• Junior forward Jarred Shaw put together his fifth consecutive double-digit scoring effort, posting 15 tonight on 7-of-11 shooting.

• Senior forward Kyisean Reed scored in double-figures for the fourth time this season... Reed had a team high three steals, which is the third-time this season he has led the team in steals.

• Reed also led USU with nine rebounds, marking the first game this season that Shaw hasn't led the team in rebounding.

• Junior forward Marvin Jean totaled a season and career-high eight points coming off the bench tonight... Two of his three field goals were from behind the arc, which is a career-best.

• Junior guard TeNale Roland grabbed a season and career-high four rebounds to go along with four assists on the night.

• Freshman forward Quincy Bair, who had his redshirt pulled this week, logged his first minutes of the season off the bench for the Aggies, with three minutes, playing all of them on the court together with his American Fork High School teammate, Marcel Davis.
