Utah State Head Coach Stew Morrill...
"As I told our guys, that was a character win. We hung in there when we were down 10 and made plays when we had to. It was a very fun win for our group of guys. It should help us down the road. Those kind of wins help you. It was kind of grind it out, find a way, don't give in when you're down. Obviously Spencer (Butterfield) had a huge night. I thought there were a lot of really good things. Their zone is good and it's tough to play against. Preston (Medlin) made a lot of passes. Defensively, we lost (Kyle) Boswell some. Alan Williams is a load. Our point guard doubling down helped us some against him. A lot of different guys did things. Spencer's big game was huge with the shots he made and the rebounds he got and all of that."
Senior Guard/Forward Spencer Butterfield...
"Once we got into overtime, I felt like we were confident enough as a team that we were going to get the win. We had the crowd into it, we had the momentum and we knew we had to execute on offense and play good defense. We were pretty confident going into overtime. I'm just trying to stay calm and level-headed. We still have one game left in this tournament so I'm just trying to stay focused on the next game. They're a great team, you have to give them all the credit in the world. We just talked about taking it one play at a time and staying together as a team."
Junior Forward Ben Clifford...
"I think that we showed incredible toughness tonight. We were down 10 or 12 with five or so minutes left. We were in a timeout and just said `We're not losing this game.' We showed toughness, came back and got it into overtime. Kyle (Davis) had the big-time tip, Preston (Medlin) had the great drive and Spencer (Butterfield) took over on the offensive end. He had some big-time shots. All-around it was a big team win. A lot of the physical dimension was them having (Alan) Williams back. He's a big, physical presence. We were pretty familiar with them and they were familiar with us."
UC Santa Barbara Head Coach Bob Williams...
"No doubt they came up with a way to win the game, I mean Spencer Butterfield was sensational down the stretch. When we felt like we had them we were up 10 and had nice control of the game, then Butterfield just got on fire and played really well and made all the big plays. You expect him to make the threes. He just took a couple of defensive rebounds away from people and put it back. His will to win was at a little bit of a higher level than ours, and yet we still had a chance to win it right down to the final seconds of regulation."
