Utah State Head Coach Stew Morrill...
"That's our basketball team in a nutshell right there. That's us right now. We can look really good like we did in the first half, or we can look really poor like we did in the second half. We're very immature. We thought it was going to be easy. We have to credit them. They came out and played a lot better in the second half, and we relaxed. All of a sudden 22 (TJ Carpenter) makes three threes in a row because we don't guard him, and we got ourselves a ball game. We've got to grow up. That's got to come from within. We have to do our job as coaches, but they have to do their job as players. They've got to grow up; they've got to mature. We had a really good first half, really disappointing second half and are fortunate to win. On to the next game."
Senior Forward Kyisean Reed...
"I think it was kind of too big of a lead, I don't think that our team knows how to handle that quite yet. That's what it is. We got complacent, and we let them back into the game. We have got to get mentally tougher and start guarding the ball, individually really. It comes down to not just guarding sets but guarding your man individually. That's what it is a lot of time. I give them a lot of credit. They came out and played tougher in the second half."
Nicholls State Head Coach J.P. Piper...
"I wish we only played 20 minutes, and I'd take that second half. I don't know what happened to us in the first half. I don't really have an answer, and I'm not going to spend a whole lot of time figuring it out. We play again tomorrow and the next day. That was the message in the post-game. If I can get what they gave me in the second half, we'd be something else. It was a heck of an effort where they showed a lot of guts and poise. We still made some mistakes, but I'll take that effort any day."
