Utah State Men's Basketball Post-Game Notes

Utah State is 7-1 to start a season for the first time since 2008-09, winning its sixth-straight game.
Utah State has out-rebounded every opponent this season and improve to 7-1 on the season when out-rebounding its opponent. However with USU's 41-33 rebounding margin at +8, it was the closest rebounding margin by an opponent this season and first game without a double-double rebounding margin.
The Aggies' nine total blocked shots is a season-best and the most since Nov. 21, 2003 at home against Fort Lewis College when Utah State posted nine blocks in an 86-54 win.
USU's nine blocks Saturday was also a Gossner Tournament record, topping the previous mark of eight by Western Michigan in 2010 against Troy.
Utah State's 23 made free throws Saturday ties a season-high, matching 23 from the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi game, and the 34 free throw attempts is a season-high.
The Aggies are now 44-1 (.978) all-time in tournaments it hosts as it went 3-0 in the Athletes In Action Classic (2011), World Vision Invitational (2010), Basketball Travelers Invitational (2009) and the Duel in the Desert (2008), 26-0 in the Gossner Foods Holiday Classic (1994-2007) and 5-1 in the Big Blue Classic (1971-1972, 1982), losing to Wyoming, 92-85, on Dec. 28, 1971 in the championship game. USU has won 43-straight home tournament games since that loss to Wyoming.
USU also upped its home record to 5-1 this season and has won 91.9 percent of its home games (215-19) under head coach Stew Morrill, including a 109-9 (.924) record in non-conference games. USU has registered a 509-112 (.820) all-time record in its 43rd year in the facility. The Aggies have won 243 of their last 264 games (.920) in the Spectrum, including 121 of their last 132 (.917) home games against league competition, including 46 of its last 50.
Utah State has won 54 of its last 60 games (.900) in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum after having its 33-game win streak snapped last season on Nov. 30, 2011 with a loss to Denver. That 33-game win streak started after a 37-game win streak was halted by Saint Mary's on Dec. 5, 2009. Overall, USU has won 90 of its last 97 home games (.928).
USU is 85-23 (.787) during the month of December under Morrill, which includes a 71-2 (.973) record at home. The Aggies are 15-4 (.789) in known games played on Dec. 20, playing on the date for the second-straight season, as last year's home tournament, the Athletes in Action Classic, sponsored by Gossner Foods, Inc., was also Dec. 20-22. The Aggies are now 1-1 this season in games played on Thursday and are also 88-20 (.815) in games played on Thursday under Morrill.
Saturday was USU's first meeting vs. Nicholls State, as the Aggies also improved to 24-9 (.727) against teams from the state of Louisiana, as USU is 14-3 against Louisiana Tech, 2-1 against Centenary, LSU and Tulane, 1-1 against New Orleans, 1-0 against Grambling and Nicholls State, 1-1 against Northwestern State and 0-1 against Louisiana-Lafayette.
The Aggies also improving to 2-0 against the Southland Conference this season, also defeating Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. USU is now 10-3 (.769) all-time against current members of the conference as USU is 6-1 against Oral Roberts, 1-0 against Lamar and Nicholls State, 1-1 against Northwestern State and TAMU-CC.
Utah State improved to 222-30 (.881) under head coach Stew Morrill when scoring at least 70 points.
USU is now 6-0 this year and has won 72 of its last 74 games (.973) when leading at the half. Over the last 13 years, USU is 279-25 (.918) when leading at the half and 46-76 (.377) when trailing at the half including a 0-1 (.000) record this year.
Saturday was the Aggies first game this season with less than a double-digit rebounding margin.
The last time Utah State had two players record a double-double on the same night was on Dec. 11, 2010 at home against Cal State Bakersfield, when Nate Bendall and Tai Wesley both recorded double-digits in points and rebounds. USU won the game 77-58.
Senior forward Kyisean Reed recorded a season-high 20 points to go along with a career-high 12 rebounds. It was Reed's fourth double-double of the season, tying him for the most on the team (four) and the 22nd of his career.
Reed also bested his previous career-high of three blocks in a game by swatting four shots in Saturday's game. Reed posted three steals, marking his fourth game with three or more steals this season. Reed was the only Aggie with a takeaway in Saturday's action.
Junior forward Jarred Shaw recorded his fourth double-double of the season as well as his second consecutive (Utah Valley). Saturday was also the fourth game of the year that Shaw has snatched double-digit rebounds.
Freshman point guard Marcel Davis dished out a career-best seven assists. Davis is now tied with junior guard Spencer Butterfield and junior guard TeNale Roland for the most assists in a game this season (7).
Junior guard Spencer Butterfield recorded a career-best 14 points, shooting 4-7 from the field and going 5-7 from the charity stripe.
Junior guard Marvin Jean tied a career-best eight points in Saturday' action, all of which came in the first half. Jean also recorded a career-high five rebounds in playing a career-high 23 minutes, topping the 20-minute mark for the first time this season.
Sophomore center Matt Lopez recorded his first career block as an Aggie, swatting two shots against the Colonels.
Sophomore forward Ben Clifford added his first block of the season helping the Aggies reach a season-best nine blocks.
Reed added two dunks tonight and leads the team with seven dunks this season.
Davis also surpassed his previous career-high, playing 31 minutes.
