LOGAN, Utah - Spencer Nelson and Jaycee Carroll each scored 20 points to lead Utah State to an 82-60 win against visiting South Carolina State in the first round of its own Gossner Foods Holiday Classic late here Wednesday night.

USU improved to 8-3 on the season and 21-0 in its own holiday tournament all-time. SCSU fell to 7-4. The Aggies will meet Loyola Marymount in the championship game on Thursday at 8:05 p.m., while SCSU will face Northern Arizona in the consolation game at 5:35 p.m.

The taller Aggies dominated the smaller, quicker Bulldogs, outshooting the visitors 57.4 percent to 35.6 percent and out-rebounding SCSU 39-23.

Two other USU players scored in double figures as Nate Harris added 12 points and David Pak chipped in 10. SCSU was led by Brandon Trapp, who had 13 and Demeco Heath, who scored 12.

USU led 34-31 at halftime as Nelson scored 11 points in the first stanza. USU sent on a 13-3 run to start the second half to push the margin to 47-34 with 16:17 remaining.

SCSU never got closer than seven points the rest of the way as USU substituted freely late in the game.
