Carroll And Harris Lead Aggies To 81-47 Win Vs. Binghamton To Claim Gossner Foods Holiday Classic Championship

LOGAN, Utah - Jaycee Carroll scored 20 points and Nate Harris added 17 as Utah State defeated Binghamton 81-47 to claim its own Gossner Foods Holiday Classic here late Friday night. Utah State improved to 24-0 in its annual tournament.
The Aggies improved to 8-3 on the season, while Binghamton fell to 3-9 overall and 1-1 in the tournament.
A 21-0 run fueled by Chaz Spicer (seven points) and Cass Matheus (six points) midway through the first half turned a 19-17 Aggie advantage into a 40-17 Utah State lead as the home team coasted the rest of the way in getting the victory.
During that 21-0 stretch Binghamton was 0 of 12 shooting from the field and did not score for 9:06.
For the game Utah State shot 56.3 percent from the field and made eight of 13 three-pointers while limiting the visiting Bearcats to just 27.4 percent shooting, including just five of 25 from three-point range.
Binghamton did not have any players reach double figures in points, but 10 of the 11 Bearcats that saw action scored in the game. Andre Heard scored a team-best nine points, but it came on three of 16 shooting.
Matheus, USU's 6-10 center, scored six of his eight points in the first half and added nine rebounds and three blocked shots in 22 minutes of play. Harris also pounded away on the inside as he hit five of six attempts en route to his 17 points.
Harris, who also hit seven of eight free throws, was named the tournament MVP for the second straight season. Teammates Carroll and Spicer were also named to the team along with Binghamton's Heard and Rashad Jones-Jennings of Arkansas-Little Rock and Slim Millien of Idaho State.
Utah State will return to WAC play this week with road games at San Jose State on Thursday and at Fresno State on Saturday.
