Preston Medlin Earns Trio Of Player Of The Week Awards

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's basketball player Preston Medlin has been named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week, College Sports Madness WAC Player of the Week and America First Credit Union USU Student-Athlete Of The Week for his performance last week in leading USU to three wins.
Medlin, a junior guard from Carrollton, Texas (Hebron HS), helped Utah State post a 3-0 WAC record last week with a road win at Texas State (81-57), and home wins against Seattle (75-66) and Idaho (82-75 OT). Against the Bobcats, Medlin scored 21 points to go along with six rebounds and one assist. Against the Redhawks, he had 18 points to go along with five assists and a season-high tying three steals. And against the Vandals, he scored 22 points and hit the tying three-pointer with 0.4 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime, where he scored nine of USU's 13 points. Medlin, who scored all but three of his points following intermission, added seven rebounds, two steals and one assist against Idaho. For the week, Medlin averaged 20.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.7 steals per game, while shooting 41.5 percent from the field (17-of-41), 41.7 percent from three-point range (10-of-24) and 73.9 percent at the free throw line (17-of-23). Medlin's three-pointer against Idaho marked the second time this year he has sent a contest into overtime as he hit the game-tying three-pointer at Santa Clara with 0:2.4. USU went on to win that game, 80-78.
This is Medlin's first WAC Player of the Week honor this season and second of his career, also collecting the accolade on Jan. 30, 2012. Medlin has earned the USU Student-Athlete of the Week honor for the third time this season, also earning the honor on Nov. 12 and Dec. 3. It is Medlin's seventh career USU honor, earning the award four times last season.
The WAC Player of the Week is selected by the conference office, while the USU Student-Athlete of the Week honor is voted on by a state media panel.

With the win over Idaho, Utah State improved to 13-1 on the season and remains in first-place in the WAC with a 4-0 league mark. Overall, USU has now won 12-straight games to rank tied for the seventh-longest winning streak in school history, including being tied for the sixth-longest under veteran head coach Stew Morrill.
After four games in a span of a week last week, Utah State only has one game this week, wrapping up a three-game homestand by hosting San Jose State (8-6, 3-1) on Friday, Jan. 11 at 7 p.m. The game will be televised regionally on KMYU.

Senior guard Jenna Johnson (Wasilla, Alaska) posted three double-doubles during the week in helping Utah State to a 2-1 record with a home win against Texas State (82-69), a road loss at Seattle (71-68 OT) and a road win at Idaho (91-85). Against the Bobcats, Johnson scored 19 points and added a career-high 11 rebounds to go along with three assists and two steals. Against the Redhawks, Johnson had 15 points and 10 rebounds, while adding one assist and one block. In Saturday's game against the Vandals, she had 19 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four steals, two assists and one block. For the week, Johnson averaged 17.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 0.7 blocks per game, while shooting 50.0 percent from the field (19-38), 40.0 percent from three-point range (4-10) and 91.7 percent at the free throw line (11-12).
