Koby McEwen Named America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State sophomore guard Koby McEwen has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 7, it was announced Monday. The award is voted on by a state-wide media panel.

The award is the first for McEwen this season.

With their sponsorship of the Student-Athlete of the Week, America First Credit Union donates funds directly to support student-athlete scholarships.

McEwen (Toronto, Canada) led Utah State to a pair of Mountain West wins last week with an 81-79 overtime home victory against Fresno State and an 85-78 road win at UNLV. Against the Bulldogs, McEwen tied his career high with 28 points and hit the front end of a one-and-one to send the game into overtime, capping a 10-point run by the Aggies at the end of regulation. McEwen shot 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the floor, 37.5 percent (3-of-8) from behind the 3-point line and 62.5 percent (5-of-8) at the free throw line during the game and added three assists, two rebounds and one steal in a career-high 41 minutes. Against UNLV, McEwen led the Aggies again with 21 points, shooting a perfect 8-for-8 at the free throw line and added four rebounds and one assist. For the week, McEwen averaged 24.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game, while shooting 47.1 percent (16-of-34) from the floor, 26.7 percent (4-of-15) from behind the 3-point line and 81.3 percent (13-of-16) at the free throw line.

Utah State continues its Mountain West slate this week, hosting Colorado State on Wednesday, Jan. 10, and then travels to Reno, Nev., on Saturday, Jan. 13, facing Nevada.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL – Sophomore guard/forward Shannon Dufficy (Preston, Victoria, Australia) led Utah State last week in a pair of Mountain West losses. In its 57-56 road loss at Fresno State, Dufficy scored four points, while adding seven rebounds and one block. In its 63-54 home loss to UNLV, Dufficy tied her career-high with 21 points to go along with eight rebounds, one assist and one block. On the week, Dufficy averaged 12.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 0.5 assists per game, while shooting 50.0 percent (9-of-18) from the floor, 50.0 percent (3-of-6) from the 3-point line and 100 percent (4-of-4) from the free throw line.
