LOGAN, Utah - The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has launched the NCAA 6th Fan contest, an exciting nationwide online competition that will determine which Division I school has the most school pride and supportive fans. Utah State fans can learn all the details at www.ncaa.com/6thfan, including how to win great fan prizes and how to help Utah State be awarded over $100,000 in general scholarship contributions.
Utah State fans can vote at www.ncaa.com/6thfan by casting votes directly, or votes can be submitted through ncaa.com to Facebook and Twitter. Fans also can vote directly on Twitter by Tweeting or Retweeting the #6thFan hashtag and Utah State's hashtag: #UTST.
To make it out of the first round in which all 345 Division I schools are competing, Utah State must be among the top 16 schools in the fan voting by February 16. If Utah State makes it to the Sweet 16, it will be awarded $10,000 in general scholarship funds. Utah State will have the flexibility to award the dollars to a randomly selected student or to Utah State's general scholarship fund.
Once in the second round with other Sweet 16 schools, Utah State fans can compete head-to-head with other schools in a single-elimination bracket format between February 17 and February 23. In the third round, the Elite 8 schools will be matched up head-to-head from February 24 to March 2. If Utah State can survive to the fourth round, it would be among the Final Four schools to compete for fan votes from March 3 to March 9, with the top two schools competing in the fifth round between March 10 to March 16 for the 6th Fan National Championship. The winning school will be announced on Selection Sunday, March 16, and be awarded $100,000 in general scholarship funds.
The contest also includes prizes for individual fans. An iPad Air will be awarded in each of the five rounds to a randomly chosen fan who votes via NCAA.com in that round. In addition, one randomly selected participant who registers and votes on NCAA.com will win an all-expense paid trip to the 2015 Men's Final Four.
"I believe that our fans are some of the best in the country, and they help make the Spectrum one of the toughest venues to play in and give us a tremendous home-court advantage. Their spirit and passion is unique, and this is a terrific chance to show the nation what Aggie fans are really all about," USU head coach Stew Morrill said.
About the NCAA The NCAA is a membership-led nonprofit association of colleges and universities committed to supporting academic and athletic opportunities for more than 450,000 student-athletes at more than 1,000 member colleges and universities. Each year, more than 54,000 student-athletes compete in NCAA championships in Divisions I, II and III sports. Visit www.ncaa.org and www.ncaa.com for more details about the Association, its goals and members and corporate partnerships that help support programs for student-athletes.
Utah State returns home to host Colorado State on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in a notable match-up. Morrill was head coach at CSU for seven seasons prior to coming to USU, while Colorado State head coach Larry Eustachy was USU head coach from 1994-98. It will be Morrill's second match-up against his former team, while it will be Eustachy's first time facing the Aggies from the opposition's bench.
All USU men's basketball single-game, multi-game and season tickets are on sale. Single-game tickets cost $18 for non-priority and $20 for priority, as well as $25 for premium game against UNLV (Feb. 15).
