Aggie Men's Basketball Receiving Votes In Both AP And USA Today/Coaches Polls
Jan. 14, 2013
LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's basketball is among others receiving votes in both this week's Associated Press and USA Today/Coaches Top 25 Polls. It is the second-straight week that the Aggies have received votes in the USA Today/Coaches Poll and the first time this season to receive votes in the AP Poll.
With a 14-1 record, USU is one of 12 teams in NCAA Division I with only one loss, as there are no undefeated teams in the country anymore. The Aggies' 13-game winning streak is currently tied with Kansas for the longest in the country. Kansas hosts Baylor Monday night.
After receiving one vote in last week's USA Today/Coaches Poll, USU received two votes this week, one of three teams to receive two votes each to tie for 36th, joining Boise State (13-2) and Bucknell (14-3). In the AP Poll, USU is one of three teams to receive one vote each to tie for No. 37, along with Baylor (11-4) and Wyoming (14-1). Louisville (15-1) is No. 1 in both polls.
The USA Today Sports Board of Coaches is made up of 31 head coaches at Division I institutions. All are members of the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
The AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll is compiled from votes by 65 sportswriters and broadcasters from across the country.
Additionally, USU is ranked No. 6 in ESPN.com's Mid-Major Power Rankings and No. 17 in bleacherreport.com's Mid-Major Top 25.
Utah State currently has an RPI of 87. The RPI (Rating Percentage Index) is a measure of strength of schedule and how a team does against that schedule.
With Friday's 66-60 win over San Jose State, Utah State improved to 14-1 on the season and remains in first-place in the WAC with a 5-0 mark. Overall, USU's 13-game win streak ranks tied for the sixth-longest winning streak in school history, including the sixth-longest under veteran head coach Stew Morrill.
Utah State returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 17 when it plays at New Mexico State (9-8, 3-2) in a 7 p.m. (MT) tip-off from Las Cruces, N.M., in a game that will be televised live on KMYU TV (Comcast Ch. 22; Dish Network Ch. 12; DirecTV Ch. 12; Over-the-Air 2.2 in Cache Valley).
