Curtis Bobb Named Co-Big West Basketball Player of the Week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State's Curtis Bobb was named co-Big West Basketball Player of the Week along with Jerry Green of UC Irvine and was also selected the Utah State Athlete of the Week it was announced today.

Bobb, a senior forward led the Aggies to wins against Long Beach State and Pacific this past weekend. Bobb led the team in scoring and rebounding in both games and averaged 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in the two USU victories.

Against Long Beach State, Bobb drilled four-of-six three-pointers en route to 16 points and eight rebounds. In the win against Pacific he scored 18 points and added seven rebounds and two steals.

In four conference games Bobb leads Utah State with 15.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 53.5 percent from the field an 50 percent from three-point range.

Bobb became the second Aggie to earn player of the week honors from the league this year as Tony Brown earned the first selection in November.

UC Irvine's Green averaged 23.5 points in two games for the Anteaters, including a 24-point effort against Idaho and a 23-point night against UC Santa Barbara.

Bobb earned USU Athlete-of-the-Week honors in a split vote over Anthony Stewart of the track team. Stewart won the 200-meters and finished third in the 50-meters at the Snake River Open at Pocatello, Idaho on Saturday.

Utah State's next basketball game will be Tuesday, Jan. 16 when the Aggies host UC Riverside at 7:05 p.m. at the Dee Glen Spectrum.

USU Athlete of the Week Nominees

Men's Track -- Anthony Stewart... Was the only Aggie to win an event at the Snake River Open at Pocatello, Idaho on Saturday. He won the 200-meters and then finished third in the 60-meters.

Women's Track -- Rebekah Thornley... Was the runner-up in the 3,000-meters to tie for USU's best women's finish at the Snake River Open.

Men's Tennis -- Andy Madersbacher... Won 11 points for Utah State in its 25-19 loss to Weber State a unique four-team tournament at Brigham Young this weekend. He defeated Tim Worse 6-2 in the men's singles portion of the contest. He then teamed with Sarah Lowe in a narrow 6-5 loss in mixed doubles.

Women's Tennis -- Sarah Lowe... Competed in three events in USU's 25-19 loss to Weber State. Teamed with Richelle Ferguson in a 6-0 doubles loss, lost 6-2 in women's singles and lost 6-5 in mixed doubles.
