Jared Quayle Named America First Credit Union Utah State Student Athlete of the Week

LOGAN, Utah - Senior guard Jared Quayle was named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week; it was announced on Monday. The USU weekly award is voted on by a state media panel. Quayle, a native of Perry, Utah, was named to the Western Athletic Conference's all-tournament team as he led Utah State to the championship game with wins against Boise State (84-60) and Louisiana Tech (85-55), before losing to New Mexico State (69-63) in the title game. Quayle began the tournament by recording his fourth double-double of the season against the Broncos as he had 13 points, a career-high 13 rebounds and four assists. He then scored 16 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists against the Bulldogs, followed by 25 points and three assists against NMSU in the championship game. For the week, Quayle averaged 18.0 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.7 assists, while shooting 54.5 percent from the field (18-33), 50.0 percent from three-point range (8-16) and was a perfect 10-of-10 at the free throw line. Utah State's men's basketball team (27-7) is the 12th-seed in the South Region and will face fifth-seeded Texas A&M (23-9) on Friday, Mar. 19 at approximately 2 p.m. (PT) in Spokane, Wash., at the Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena. The winner of that game will face either fourth-seeded Purdue or 13th-seeded Siena on Sunday, Mar. 21. NCAA First Round Schedule Spokane, Wash. - Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena (All Times PDT)Other USU Athlete of the Week Nominees Include: WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Junior guard LaCale Pringle-Buchanan (Seattle, Wash.) was the Aggies' leading scorer with 18 points to go along with five steals in seventh-seeded USU's 82-65 loss to second-seed Louisiana Tech Wednesday in the first round of the WAC Tournament. It was Pringle-Buchanan's second-highest scoring output of the season and the 11th double-digit outing. GYMNASTICS - Senior Heather Heinrich (Littleton, Colo.) topped her career-high in the all-around for the second time in four meets, registering a 39.250, helping Utah State to a season-high 193.725 Friday while San Jose State won with a 194.675. Heinrich finished second in the all-around, but won the vault with a career-best tying 9.850, USU's highest vault score this season. Heinrich's vault is tied for the fifth-best score in school history and is the fifth-best score in the WAC this year. Heinrich also finished second on beam with a season-high 9.825, as well as tying her career-high with a 9.750 on bars to tie for fourth. The lone event that wasn't a monumental score for Heinrich was on floor, where she tallied a 9.825, placing fourth. SOFTBALL - Senior Simone Hubbard (Medford, Ore.) was an offensive force for Utah State as the Aggies went 2-3 at the Aggie Invitational in College Station, Texas. Hubbard hit .385 going 5-for-13 in five games. She played in all five games, starting four. In the first win against Wright State, the catcher went 3-for-3 with one double and two RBI. In USU's other win against Wright State, she went 1-for-4, plating another run. She also added a hit in the Aggies loss to North Dakota State. Hubbard has helped lead the Aggies to a 10-8 record this season.
