Utah State Will Host Mercer Wednesday Night in Championship Game of CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament
Utah State men's basketball will play its final game of the 2011-12 season against Mercer on Wednesday, March 28 at 7 p.m., in the championship of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT). LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's basketball will play its final game of the 2011-12 season against Mercer on Wednesday, March 28 at 7 p.m., in the championship of the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT). The game will be televised live nationally on Fox College Sports (Comcast Ch. 263, DirecTV Ch. 623).

Ticket prices are $17 for adults, while USU students will receive free admission with a valid ID. Junior Aggie members will also receive free admission if accompanied by a paying adult. Fans can purchase tickets in person inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum at the USU Ticket Office, or over the phone by call 1-888-USTATE-1. Tickets are also available on-line 24 hours a day at UtahStateAggies.com.

Utah State is 21-15 on the season after posting home wins against CSU Bakersfield (75-69), Idaho (76-56), Loyola Marymount (77-69) and Oakland (105-81) in the first four rounds of the CIT. Overall, USU has won seven of its last eight games and is 17-4 at home this year.

Mercer is 26-11 overall after defeating Tennessee State (68-60) and Georgia State (64-59) at home, and Old Dominion (79-73) and Fairfield (64-59) on the road in the first four rounds of the CIT. The Bears, who have won 15 of their last 19 games, are 11-8 on the road this year. MU finished in second-place in the Atlantic Sun Conference this year with a 13-5 record.

The meeting between Utah State and Mercer will be the second-ever in series history as USU notched a 74-55 home win against the Bears on Dec. 28, 1999 in the Gossner Foods Holiday Classic. All-time, USU is 1-1 against current members of the Atlantic Sun Conference as it is 1-0 against Mercer and 0-1 against Jacksonville.

Utah State is led by sophomore guard Preston Medlin who is averaging 17.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.4 assists, while shooting 49.9 percent from the field, 43.5 percent from three-point range and 80.1 percent at the free throw line. Utah State has two other players scoring in double-figures as senior guard Brockeith Pane is averaging 12.6 points and 4.3 assists, while junior forward Kyisean Reed is averaging 9.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game. Senior forward Morgan Grim is averaging 9.1 points and a team-best 6.1 rebounds on the season. As a team, Utah State is averaging 69.0 points and shooting 47.7 percent from the field, 37.0 percent from three-point range and 71.9 percent at the free throw line. Defensively, USU is allowing 64.7 points and its opponents are shooting 41.6 percent from the field, 33.1 percent from three-point range and 66.3 percent at the free throw line.

 

 

Mercer is led by sophomore guard Langston Hall who is averaging 11.3 points and 4.2 assists, while shooting 37.7 percent from the field, 36.8 percent from three-point range and 75.4 percent at the free throw line. Senior guard Justin Cecil is averaging 10.9 points and sophomore forward Jakob Gollon is averaging 10.5 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. As a team, Mercer is averaging 68.1 points and shooting 45.8 percent from the field, 36.4 percent from three-point range and 71.6 percent at the free throw line. Defensively, MU is allowing 62.7 points and its opponents are shooting 38.6 percent from the field, 30.8 percent from three-point range and 67.3 percent at the free throw line.
