June 20, 2012
Morgan Grim, one of three graduating seniors from the 2011-12 Utah State men's basketball team, has signed to play professionally with the Fjolnir Reykjavik team in Grafarvogur, Reykjavik, Iceland starting Sept. 1.
Grim (Riverton, Utah) spent three years at Utah State (2010-12), including a redshirt season after transferring from the University of Utah.
"I'd been contacted by a few agents and Iceland just seemed like the best situation for me for my first year," Grim said. "I'm excited to be able to continue to play the game I love on a professional level."
Fjolnir finished the 2011-12 season with a record of 8-14 in Iceland's Premier League. Grim will join former Texas A&M forward Nathan Walkup as the only two Americans on the team.
As a senior, Grim started all 37 games for Utah State averaging 27.9 minutes per outing. During the season, he averaged 9.1 points and team-best 6.1 rebounds per game, while shooting 56.8 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from the free throw line. Overall, he ranked third in the Western Athletic Conference in field goal shooting, seventh in rebounding and ninth in blocked shots (0.86)
Grim was also named to the CollegeInsider.com all-tournament team after helping Utah State post a 4-1 record en route to the championship game. For the tournament, Grim averaged 12.8 points and 7.0 rebounds, while shooting 71.4 percent from the field (25-35) and 70.0 percent at the free throw line (14-20).
