LOGAN, Utah - Former Utah State men's basketball player Jarred Shaw will be a member of the Charlotte Hornets' NBA summer league roster.
The NBA Summer League will be held July 11-21 in Las Vegas, Nev., at the Thomas & Mack Center and COX Pavilion on the campus of the UNLV. Each team will play no fewer than five games, including three preliminary games before beginning the seeded tournament on July 16.
The Hornets will open play against the defending Summer League Champion Golden State Warriors on Friday, July 11, at 3:30 p.m. MT at the Thomas & Mack Center. After an off day, the team will face the Sacramento Kings on Sunday, July 13, at 1 p.m. MT at COX Pavilion before concluding preliminary play against the New York Knicks on Monday, July 14, at 11 a.m. MT at COX Pavilion. The July 13 and 14 games are scheduled to air live on NBA TV.
For the second consecutive year, the event will feature a tournament-style schedule, culminating in the crowning of the Samsung NBA Summer League 2014 Champion on Monday, July 21. All of the participating teams will play three games apiece between July 11 and 15 before being seeded in the tournament, which tips off on July 16 and runs through the championship game on July 21. Shaw, a 6-10 center from Dallas, Texas, earned honorable mention all-Mountain West honors in 2013-14 after earning second-team all-Western Athletic Conference accolades and being named to the WAC all-Newcomer Team in 2012-13. During his senior season, Shaw ranked 73rd in the NCAA in overall rebounding (8.3), also ranking 35th in defensive rebounds per game (6.33) and 93rd in double-doubles (8). He also ranked 13th in the MW in scoring (14.1) and eighth in rebounding (8.3), also ranking fourth in field goal percentage (.483), as well as eighth in blocks (1.1). In MW-only stats, Shaw ranked tied for 14th in scoring (13.6), as well as fifth in both rebounds (8.8), field goal percentage (.455) and eighth in blocked shots (1.2). He started and played in 27 games, shooting 48.3 percent (157-of-325) from the field along with 78.2 percent (68-of-87) at the free throw line.
NBA TV's coverage of the Samsung NBA Summer League will begin in COX Pavilion on July 11 with a four-game slate. The network will televise all 67 games, including a total of 38 games live during the event, including the Championship Game on July 21.
