Former Aggie Spencer Butterfield Taking his Shots with the Utah Jazz During the NBA Summer League

LOGAN, Utah - Former Aggie Spencer Butterfield is making the most of his time with the Utah Jazz as a member of its Summer League roster, having already logged one start and highlighting his time with an 11-point performance in nine minutes of play against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Butterfield appeared in his first action in an 89-82 loss to the Boston Celtics in the second game of the Jazz schedule. In the game, Butterfield was given a start and logged close to 23 minutes, scoring eight points on 3-of-7 shooting, including a 2-for-3 clip from behind the 3-point line. He was also active on the glass during the game, logging a summer-best six rebounds.

Despite coming off the bench in the next game as the sixth man in an 86-75 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, Butterfield played in more than 18 minutes and scored nine points on 3-of-7 shooting, including 1-of-2 from behind the 3-point line, and added 2-of-5 from the free throw line.

The games then moved from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas, where the Jazz opened that leg of its Summer League schedule with an 88-73 defeat to the Washington Wizards. Butterfield appeared in 13 minutes off the bench in the game, making his only shot attempt to finish with two points.

Butterfield made the most of his minutes in a 79-72 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, scoring 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting, including 3-of-5 from behind the 3-point line, in just under nine minutes of play. The performance was the second-highest among Jazz bench players, grading out to a plus-8 at the final whistle.

During the summer, Butterfield is averaging 7.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game, while shooting 47.9 percent from the floor (11-of-23) and 60.0 percent (6-of-10) from behind the 3-point line in close to 15.5 minutes per game. Butterfield is coming off of a season where he played with Juventus in Lithuania, and led the team with 14.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 42.4 percent (78-of-184).

Butterfield and the Jazz will face the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday, July 12, at 2:30 p.m. (MT) in the Thomas & Mack Center as play continues in Las Vegas. The game will be the final contest before teams are sorted into a bracket, with games scheduled to be played July 13-18. Fans can watch all of the games live on NBATV.
