Fueger replaces Lance Beckert, who recently accepted a fund-raising position with the Utah State University Huntsman School of Business.
"It's always tough to lose someone as valuable as Lance. He did a great job for us and we wish him well in his new opportunity on campus," Morrill said.
Fueger comes to USU after one season at UC Riverside, where he was the director of basketball operations since July of 2011, helping the Highlanders to the second-most wins in school history, including their first-ever win over a PAC-12 team in the program's history. At UCR, Fueger oversaw all administrative aspects of the program including community outreach, budgeting, travel, practice coordination, film exchange and oversight and recruitment of graduate assistants and student managers.
"We are excited to add Cody to our staff and are very confident in the talents he brings to the position," Morrill said. "He has excellent experience in the director of basketball operations spot and he comes highly recommended by people I trust. He certainly has a bright future in college basketball and we know he will excel in all aspects of our program."
Prior to UC Riverside, Fueger was the men's basketball director of operations at Louisiana Tech for four years under head coach Kerry Rupp, overseeing film exchange, organizing scouting video, helping with on-campus recruiting and direct graduate assistants and managers in assisting all areas of the program. He also served as director of the Kerry Rupp Basketball Camp. During his time at LA Tech, the Bulldogs progressed from nine wins in his first two seasons to 24 wins in his third season and a berth in the CollegeInsiders.com Tournament.
"I'm very excited to be back in Utah and be a part of a tradition that is second-to-none. To work for another legendary coach and a great staff makes this the right fit for me. I look forward to being on the right side of the HURD," Fueger said.
Before his stint at LA Tech, Fueger served as the video coordinator and administrative assistant for the men's basketball team at the University of Utah under Ray Giacoletti and previously Rick Majerus. He served as administrative assistant and was involved in film exchange, video taping practice, setting up practice and editing game film during his five-year tenure. Fueger also extensively worked with Utah basketball camps. He was on staff for two Mountain West regular-season championships and one MW Tournament title, as well as three of Utah's NCAA Tournament berths, including the Utes' Sweet 16 run in 2004, in addition to Andrew Bogut, who was the National College Basketball Player of the Year and the first pick in the NBA Draft in 2005.
A native of Milwaukee, Wis., Fueger attended Wisconsin Oshkosh and later earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Utah in 2006. A year later he earned his master's degree in parks, recreation and tourism-sports management from Utah.
Fueger and his wife Danielle have a one year-old daughter Isabella.
The Aggies open the 2012-13 season on Friday, Oct. 26 in an exhibition game against Grand Canyon. Utah State returns three starters among five lettermen from last year's team that finished the season with a 21-16 record, advancing to the championship game of the CollegeInsider.com Tournament (CIT). USU extended its current school records for consecutive 20-win seasons and postseason appearances to 13-straight in 2012 as it is one of just five schools nationally to win 21 games in each of the last 13 years along with Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas and Syracuse. Furthermore, Utah State's current run of 13-straight postseason appearances is tied for the 11th-longest active streak in the nation.
