LOGAN, Utah - Seven players scored in double-figures in Utah State men's basketball's closed scrimmage Saturday at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Veteran Aggie head coach Stew Morrill put the team through four 10-minute sessions, mixing up the roster with players playing for both the blue and the white teams throughout the game.
Freshman forward Jalen Moore led all scorers with a double-double, posting 19 points and 10 rebounds on the day, while senior center Jarred Shaw also registered a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, adding two blocks. Moore added three steals, two assists and one block. Senior guards Preston Medlin and Spencer Butterfield netted 16 points apiece with Medlin hitting a pair of three-pointers and Butterfield netting one. Medlin also dished out five assists, while Butterfield snared five rebounds.
Junior forward Kyle Davis pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds, adding nine points. Sophomore guard Marcel Davis dished out seven assists to go with nine points, while senior guard TeNale Roland tallied 10 points, matching Medlin with a team-high two three-pointers.
Freshman guard JoJo McGlaston added 11 points to go with five assists.
USU totalled 54-of-124 (43.5 percent) field goal shooting, hitting 8-of-29 (27.6 percent) behind the three-point arc and 21-of-31 (67.7 percent) at the free throw line. Overall, the Aggies totalled 73 rebounds (23 offensive, 50 defensive), dishing out 32 assists, while recording 15 turnovers, nine blocks and 10 steals.
Utah State opens the 2013-14 season with an exhibition against Central Methodist (Mo.) on Friday, Oct. 25 and then host Adams State (Colo.) in another exhibition on Friday, Nov. 1.
The Aggies host USC in the season-season opener on Friday, Nov. 8, then host in-state foe Southern Utah on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
USU men's basketball season ticket renewals and new season tickets are now on sale. Season tickets start at $230 and they include all 20 home games as well as the BYU game at EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City on Nov. 30.
