Men's Basketball Holds First Scrimmage Saturday

LOGAN, Utah - With a week of practice under its belts, Utah State's men's basketball team held its first scrimmage of the 2007-08 season on Saturday morning at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on the USU campus as veteran head coach Stew Morrill ran his club through four 10-minute sessions.
Leading the way for Utah State was All-American Jaycee Carroll who scored a team-high 32 points, as he was 11-of-17 from the field and six-of-nine from three-point range. The senior guard also added six assists and five rebounds on the day.
Utah State also received solid play from four of its post players during the scrimmage as redshirt freshman Tai Wesley scored 21 points on 10-of-11 shooting, junior forward Gary Wilkinson scored 19 points on nine-of-10 shooting, freshman center Modou Niang scored 16 points on six-of-seven shooting and senior forward Stephen DuCharme added 14 points on five-of-seven shooting. Overall, USU had six post players play during the scrimmage and the group combined to shot 34-of-45 (.756) from the field.
As a collective group, Utah State shot 58.9 percent from the field (56-95), 34.5 percent from three-point range (10-29) and 82.1 percent from the free throw line (23-28). USU also combined for 48 assists, 30 turnovers, 15 steals and two blocks.
Utah State will hold its final dress-rehearsal of the preseason on Friday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. in the annual Blue-White scrimmage at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Admission to the event is free and doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
