Overall, it is the first time this year and in his career Merrill has been named USU's student-athlete of the week.

The Bountiful, Utah, native led Utah State to a 2-1 record last week with a road loss at Portland State (83-79), followed by neutral site wins against Northeastern (71-67) and New Hampshire (77-63) in Nashville, Tenn.
Against the Vikings, Merrill scored a career-high-tying 23 points, shooting 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the floor, 60.0 percent (3-of-5) from behind the 3-point line and 85.7 percent (6-of-7) at the free throw line. Merrill also finished the game with four rebounds and three assists in a team-high 35 minutes.
Against the Huskies, Merrill logged 19 points, shooting 53.8 percent (7-of-13) from the floor, 33.3 percent (2-of-6) from behind the 3-point line and 75.0 percent (3-of-4) at the free throw line, and added three assists, two steals and two rebounds in a career-high-tying 38 minutes.
And against the Wildcats, Merrill led the Aggies with 20 points, shooting 63.6 percent (7-of-11) from the floor, 42.9 percent (3-of-7) from behind the 3-point line and 100.0 percent (3-of-3) at the free throw line. Merrill also tacked on four rebounds, one steal and one assist in 33 minutes.
For the week, Merrill averaged 20.7 points per game, shooting 56.8 percent (21-of-37) from the floor, 44.4 percent (8-of-18) from behind the 3-point line and 85.7 percent (12-of-14) at the free throw line, and totaled 10 rebounds (3.3 per game), seven assists and three steals.
Utah State wraps up its road trip on Monday as it takes on Valparaiso (6-0) at the Athletics-Recreation Center in Valparaiso, Ind. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. (MT).

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL – Sophomore guard/forward Shannon Dufficy (Preston, Victoria, Australia) led Utah State in its 70-67 loss at Southern Utah last week. Against the Thunderbirds, Dufficy recorded her third double-double of the season with 12 points and a career-high 19 rebounds. Those 19 boards tie for eighth all-time in a single game for an Aggie, and are the most by any USU player since 1983. She also added one assist and one block in the game. On the night, Dufficy shot 75.0 percent (6-of-8) from the floor.
FOOTBALL – Redshirt freshman quarterback Jordan Love (Bakersfield, Calif.) had 316 yards of total offense in Utah State’s 38-35 Mountain West road loss at Air Force last weekend. Love was 17-of-30 passing for 284 yards and tied his career-high with two touchdowns, while adding 32 rushing yards on six carries.
