LOGAN, Utah - Utah State junior guard Julion Pearre has been nominated for the 2017 Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Team, recognizing a group of student-athletes who represent the sport’s finest in the areas of community service and leadership among their peers. The award is facilitated by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and Allstate Insurance company.
The Allstate NABC and WBCA Good Works Teams recognizes players at all levels of college basketball whose charitable involvement and altruistic acts stand out amongst all other student-athletes participating in the sport. From leading an initiative to help end the water crisis in Flint, Mich., to co-founding a non-profit with the mission to improve literacy rates across the country, the players nominated embody the true spirit of teamwork and giving back.
Pearre is one of 278 initial nominees on the list that were nominated by athletic departments and sports information directors across the country. The list will be narrowed down to 10 for both the men and women and the final 20 will be announced in February.
Pearre has appeared in 67 games over the course of his career with the Aggies, averaging 6.8 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. Off of the court, Pearre earned academic all-Mountain West honors last season for his performance in the classroom after maintaining a 3.0 cumulative grade-point average and appearing in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.
Pearre is majoring in information systems and actively participates in community service events, including assisting at the local food pantry, helping with youth basketball clinics and reading with children at local elementary schools.
Pearre is joined on the list by fellow Mountain West players: Zach Kocur (Air Force), Nick Duncan (Boise State), Isaac Thornton (San José State) and Tim Williams (New Mexico). Pearre is also one of three from the Beehive State, including Kyle Davis (BYU) and Andrew Bastien (Utah Valley).
