Preston Medlin Tabbed USU Student-Athlete Of The Week

LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's basketball player Preston Medlin has been named the America First Credit Union Utah State Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Dec. 2, an award that is voted on by a state-wide media panel.
Medlin, a junior guard from Carrollton, Texas (Hebron HS), helped Utah State to a 1-0 road record last week with an 80-78 overtime win at Santa Clara. Medlin, who finished the game with 11 points, five assists, four rebounds and one steal, hit a three-pointer with 2.4 seconds left to force overtime and hit another trey in the extra period, dealing the Broncos their first loss of the season. Medlin, who scored all but two of his points in a five minute span overlapping the last 2:29 of regulation and opened up overtime, was 3-of-6 shooting including 2-of-4 from three-point range and 3-for-3 at the free throw line.
This is Medlin's second USU Athlete of the Week honor this season, also earning the accolade on Nov. 12. This is Medlin's sixth career USU honor, earning the award four times last season.
Medlin currently ranks 13th in the Western Athletic Conference in scoring (13.2 ppg), as well as fourth for assists (3.8 apg) and fifth for assist-turnover ratio (1.73). Medlin also leads the WAC in minutes played (37.2 mpg).
Utah State plays at in-state foe Brigham Young on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. It will also be aired on the radio on the Aggie Sports Network, as well as televised on BYU TV (Ch. 21 / Ch. 647 HD Comcast; Ch. 9403 on Dish Network; Ch. 68 or 374 on DirecTV in Cache Valley), along with live audio, video streaming and live stats links available on USU's website, www.UtahStateAggies.com.
The Aggies then return home to host Western Oregon on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Senior guard Jenna Johnson (Wasilla, Alaska) averaged 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.5 steals and 1.0 assists last week as Utah State posted an 0-2 record with a road loss at Utah (92-64) and a home loss to Montana State (71-65). Against the Utes, Johnson had 12 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal as she was 5-of-11 from the field and 2-for-4 at the free throw line. Against the Bobcats, she scored a career-high 20 points, tied her career-high with 10 rebounds and added a career-best eight steals for her second double-double of the season. In the game, Johnson was 6-of-9 shooting from the field and 8-for-10 at the free throw line. For the week, Johnson shot 55.0 percent overall (11-20) and 71.4 percent at the free throw line (10-14).
