LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's basketball player Kyisean Reed collected three weekly player of the week honors for his performance last week. Reed was named the Western Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the Utah State America First Credit Union Student-Athlete of the Week as well as the College Sports Madness WAC Player of the Week, all for the period of Dec. 16-23.
Reed, a native of Palmdale, Calif. (Highland HS/Antelope Valley JC), was named the Most Valuable Player of the 2012 Utah State hosted World Vision Basketball Challenge as he led USU to the tournament championship with wins against Nicholls State (79-72), UC Davis (73-61) and Southern Illinois (70-58). d scored a season-high 20 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds for his first double-double of the season as he was 7-of-9 from the field and 6-for-8 at the free throw line. Reed also had a career-high four blocks to go along with three steals and one assist in 32 minutes. Against UCD, Reed scored nine points to go along with eight rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes, as he was 2-of-7 from the field and 5-for-7 from the free throw line. And against the Salukis, Reed scored a season-high 21 points to go along with a season-high tying three assists, three rebounds, two blocks and one steal in 35 minutes, as he was 7-of-12 from the field and 7-for-8 at the line.
For the tournament, Reed averaged 16.7 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.3 steals in 31.3 minutes per outing, while shooting 57.1 percent from the field (16-28) and 78.3 percent at the free throw line (18-23).
Following the Christmas break, Utah State will begin its final season in the Western Athletic Conference at UTSA on Saturday, Dec. 29 at 6 p.m. (MT), followed by a game at Texas State on Monday, Dec. 31 at 3 p.m. (MT). USU then returns home to host Seattle on Thursday, Jan. 3 and Idaho on Saturday, Jan. 5, with both games beginning at 7 p.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - Senior guard Devyn Christensen (Caldwell, Idaho) helped Utah State to a 1-1 home record last week with a 71-70 loss to UC Irvine and a 70-69 win against South Dakota. Against the Anteaters, Christensen scored 20 points to go along with six rebounds and four assists in 39 minutes, as she shot 7-of-19 from the field and 6-of-14 from three-point range. Against the Coyotes, she scored 25 points, including the game-winning three-pointer with 10 seconds to play. Christensen also had seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in 35 minutes, as she was 10-of-19 from the field, 4-of-8 from three-point range and 1-for-1 at the free throw line. For the week, Christensen averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.0 steals in 37 minutes, while shooting 44.7 percent from the field (17-38) and 45.5 percent from three-point range (10-22).
