Utah State Football Starts Fall Camp Friday, Aug. 5

Fourth-year head coach Matt Wells welcomes back 12 starters (O-9, D-3) and 38 letterwinners (O-20, D-15, S-3) from last year's team that finished tied for second in the Mountain Division of the Mountain West with a 5-3 record, and played in its school-record fifth-straight bowl game.

HONORS: Honorable Mention All-Mountain West Punt Returner (2015); Phil Steele Second-Team All-Mountain West Punt Returner (2015); Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week (9/7/15).

SINGLE-GAME RECORDS: Returned a Mountain West- and school-record eight punts for 136 yards against Southern Utah (9/3/15)... His 88-yard punt return for touchdown against Southern Utah ranks as the third-longest in school history, is tied for the second-longest in MW history, and is a Maverik Stadium record.

2016 (SR): Played in all 12 games, making seven starts… Finished the season with 26 receptions for 286 yards (11.0 ypr), to rank second on the team in both categories, while adding one touchdown reception, which was tied for fourth on the team… Had a career-high seven receptions for 64 yards against Air Force (9/24) and six receptions for a career-best 89 yards at Boise State (10/1), which included a 30-yard touchdown catch, his only touchdown of the season… Had at least one reception in 10 games… Also returned 17 punts for 99 yards during the season as he ranked sixth in the Mountain West and 51st nationally with his 5.8 yards per punt return average... Had a season-high three punt returns at Nevada (11/19) and a season-best 28 return yards on two punt returns against Weber State (9/1), including a season-long return of 22 yards… Returned at least one punt in 10 games.

2015 (RS-JR): Played in all 13 games, making nine starts at wide receiver... Earned honorable mention all-Mountain West honors and was named second-team all-Mountain West by Phil Steele as a punt returner as he returned 26 punts for 258 yards (9.9 ypr), and that average ranks sixth all-time in school history... Finished the season ranking tied for second in the conference and tied for 13th in the nation with one punt return for a touchdown (0.08 pg), and second in the MW and 30th in the nation in punt return average (9.9 ypr)... Was named the MW Special Teams Player of the Week following USU’s 12-9 home win against Southern Utah (9/3) as he returned a conference- and school-record eight punts for 136 yards, including an 88-yard return for a touchdown with 4:54 to play for the winning score... That 88-yard punt return is a Maverik Stadium record, tied for the second-longest return in MW history and is the third-longest return in USU history... As a wide receiver, he caught 27 passes for 281 yards (10.4 ypr) with one touchdown as he ranked second on the team in receiving yards and tied for second in receptions... Had a career-high four receptions in three separate games as he caught four passes for 22 yards at Washington (9/19), four passes for 48 yards at New Mexico (11/7), and four passes for a career-high 78 yards against BYU (11/28)... His lone touchdown reception on the season was on a 24-yard catch at New Mexico... Had a career-long reception of 58 yards against BYU... In all, he caught at least one pass in all but one game during the season and returned at least one punt in 10 games as he recorded seven punt returns of at least 10 yards during the year... Also forced a fumble during a special teams tackle against New Mexico (11/7).

2014 (RS): Redshirted during his first season at Utah State and was named the Scout Team Offensive MVP.

PREVIOUS SCHOOL: Spent two seasons (2012, 2013) at Houston... As a sophomore, he played in 11 games with one start... Finished the year with nine receptions for 88 yards as seven of his catches resulted in first downs... Season’s best game came at Louisville when he had three receptions for 24 yards... Had a season-long 17-yard reception at Rutgers... As a freshman, he played in just two games before missing the rest of the year due to injury... Had five receptions for 82 yards against Louisiana Tech, as all five catches went for first downs.

HIGH SCHOOL: Named an honorable mention All-American and earned Texas Class 6A Region I District 6 first-team all-state honors by the Associated Press at wide receiver as a prep senior at Allen (Texas) High School in 2011... Also earned all-district, all-county and all-area honors as he helped the Eagles to an 11-1 record and district and bi-district championships... Caught 64 passes for 1,462 yards (22.8 ypc) with 18 touchdowns... Had seven 100-yard receiving games and three 200-yard receiving games as a senior, to go along with six multi-touchdown games... Earned second-team all-District 8-5A honors as a junior... Helped Allen HS to a 31-5 record during his three years.

PERSONAL: Son of Tomas and Blanca Rodriguez... Graduated from Utah State in the spring of 2016 with a bachelor of arts degree in interdisciplinary studies with an emphasis in politics, history and business.
