Transcript: Utah State Football News Conference

USU football head coach Matt Wells held a news conference Monday to recap the Air Force game and preview its Homecoming game against Weber State.

2014 (SR): Played in 10 games, making three starts... Graded out at 82 percent for the season, including 87 percent in assignment... Best game of the year was against San José State (11/21) as he graded out at 97 percent, which included 100 percent in effort, 96 percent in assignment and 93 percent in technique, while adding five knockdowns... Finished the year with 21 knockdowns.

2013 (JR): Appeared in six games... Played a season-high 46 snaps against Weber State (9/14), grading out at 74 percent... Graded out at 83 percent in 18 snaps at New Mexico (10/19)... Recorded 10 knockdowns on the season, including four at Air Force (9/7) and four against WSU.

JUNIOR COLLEGE: Played offense and defensive line at Snow College, helping the Badgers to the Top of the Mountains Bowl title in 2011... Earned second-team all-Western States Football League (WSFL) honors as a sophomore... Totaled 34 tackles and two sacks in 2011.

HIGH SCHOOL: Played both offensive line and defensive line at Jordan (Utah) High School, earning all-region honors... Was high school teammates with former Aggie center Tyler Larsen... Helped the Beetdiggers to the state playoffs all four seasons... Posted 13 tackles in senior season... Also had one rush for three yards.

PERSONAL: One of six children of Mailofiti and Valasi Vavau... Graduated from Utah State in the fall of 2014 with an interdisciplinary studies degree emphasizing in humanities and social sciences... Last name is pronounced Vuh-vow.
