Utah State Football Starts Fall Camp Friday, Aug. 5

Fourth-year head coach Matt Wells welcomes back 12 starters (O-9, D-3) and 38 letterwinners (O-20, D-15, S-3) from last year's team that finished tied for second in the Mountain Division of the Mountain West with a 5-3 record, and played in its school-record fifth-straight bowl game.

HONORS: Honorable Mention All-Mountain West (2014).

UTAH STATE: The leader among the safeties group... Has developed into a vocal leader... Knows the defense very well and will play every position in the secondary... Is an athletic playermaker with great range.

2015 (JR): Played in all 13 games, making eight starts at safety... Finished the season ninth on the team with 46 tackles (29-solo, 17-assist)... Also had two pass breakups and tied for the team lead with three interceptions (0.20 pg), which ranked 10th in the Mountain West... Those three picks came at Washington (9/19), at Fresno State (10/10) and at New Mexico (11/7), as he returned that interception against the Lobos a career-long 44 yards... Had a season-high seven tackles against Colorado State (10/3) and posted six tackles in back-to-back games at Utah (9/11) and at Washington, along with six stops at San Diego State (10/23)... Recorded at least four tackles in seven different games during the season.

2014 (SO): Played in 13 games, making six starts... Earned honorable mention all-Mountain West honors as he ranked tied for first in the conference and tied for 10th in the nation in fumbles recovered (0.23 pg), tied for seventh in the MW in passes defended (0.85 pg), and 33rd in the MW in tackles (5.7 pg)... Finished the season first on the team in fumbles recovered (3), first in pass breakups (10), fifth in tackles (74), tied for sixth in tackles for loss (6.5) and tied for sixth in sacks (3.0), while adding two quarterback hurries and one interception... Returned two fumbles for touchdowns, with a 47-yard return against Wake Forest (9/13) and a 10-yard return at Hawai'i (11/1), to rank as one of just 18 defenders at the FBS level to score multiple defensive touchdowns on the season... Also recovered a fumble at Arkansas State (9/20).... His lone interception of the season was at BYU (10/3) that he returned 34 yards... Had two double-digit tackle outings during the season with 10 stops against Idaho State (9/6) and a career-high 11 stops at Arkansas State... Also had a career-high 2.5 tackles for loss, including 1.0 sacks, against the Red Wolves to go along with his fumble recovery... Began the season with nine tackles at Tennessee (8/31)... Had a career-high two pass breakups against both BYU and Boise State (11/29)... His 3.0 sacks on the season came in three-straight games against ISU, WF and ASU... Added tackles for loss against Wyoming (11/7) and San José State (11/21).

2013 (RS-FR): Played in 13 games... Finished the year with three total tackles (1-solo, 2-assist) as he had one stop against Weber State (9/14), one tackle at New Mexico (10/19) and one stop against Hawai'i (11/2)... Led the team with two blocked kicks as he blocked punts against both BYU (10/4) and Boise State (10/12) in back-to-back weeks.

2012 (RS): Redshirted during his first season at Utah State.

HIGH SCHOOL: Recorded 37 tackles to go along with five pass break-ups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery as a senior at Chandler (Ariz.) High School... Finished second at state in the 110m hurdles (14.16) and fourth in the 300m hurdles (39.11)... Had marks of 22'7" in the long jump and 6'2" in the high jump... Spent freshman season at Desert Vista (Ariz.) High School.

PERSONAL: Son of Vada Lonnie and Larry Centers... Has four sisters and one brother... His father played in the NFL for 14 seasons, mostly with the Arizona Cardinals... Brother, Larry, played wide receiver at Texas State... Sister, Brittani, played volleyball at North Texas, while another sister, Jndia, ran track at New Mexico State... Went to the same high school as former Aggie linebacker Michael Okonkwo... Majoring in business administration and marketing.
