UTAH STATE: An extremely bright, smart and competitive quarterback who displays great maturity on and off the field... Can make plays outside the pocket.

2016 (SO): Served as the team’s holder on all extra points and field goals in all 12 games… Completed his only pass attempt of the season for 12 yards against Air Force (9/24/16).

2015 (RS-FR): Served as the team’s holder in all 13 games... Carried the ball twice with a 13-yard rush against BYU (11/28) and a minus seven-yard rush against Akron (12/22) in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl... Earned academic all-Mountain West honors.

2014 (RS): Redshirted during his first season at Utah State.

HIGH SCHOOL: Named a U.S. Air Force Medium Schools first-team All-American and a MaxPreps second-team All-American, as well as the Salt Lake Tribune 4A MVP, the Deseret News 4A Player of the Year and the Logan Herald Journal All-Valley Player of the Year at quarterback as a prep senior at Logan (Utah) High School... Led the Grizzlies to the 2011 Utah 4A state championship with a 14-0 record... Also led the Grizzlies to back-to-back region titles... Threw for 3,489 yards on 267-of-427 (.625) passing with only seven interceptions and rushed for 1,605 yards on 264 carries (6.1 ypc/114.6 ypg)... Had a total of 73 touchdowns his senior season (49 passing, 24 rushing)... Amassed a state-record 606 yards of total offense and accounted for seven touchdowns against Bountiful HS in the 4A semifinals as he completed 27-of-38 passes for 417 yards and five touchdowns, while running 25 times for another 189 yards and two touchdowns... Rushed for 100 yards eight times as a senior, including a career-high 189 yards against Bountiful HS in the semifinals of the state playoffs… Threw at least three touchdown passes in 11 games, including a career-high six against both Bountiful HS and Herriman HS... Threw for at least 300 yards five times as a prep senior... Also saw limited action as a safety during his senior year... Was 119-of-195 (.610) passing during his junior season for 1,466 yards with 16 touchdowns and five interceptions, while also rushing for 564 yards on 143 carries (3.9 ypc) with 10 touchdowns... Defensively, he recorded 77 tackles and two interceptions.

PERSONAL: One of six children of Keith and Joni Nelson... Older brother, Riley, started his collegiate career at USU as a quarterback before transferring to BYU... Younger brother, Chase, is a freshman safety for USU... Returned from a two-year LDS Church Mission in the summer of 2014... Majoring in business administration.
