1st Year at USU

Entering his first season with the USU coaching staff after a two-year playing career with the Aggies is Daniel Gurrola, who will serve as student assistant for defense, working primarily with Coach Andersen, Coach Maile and the USU defensive line.

Gurrola had his senior season shortened with an injury, playing in just five games in 2010. He posted 14 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss with 1.5 sacks and added a forced fumble. As a junior, Gurrola tallied 13 total tackles with two tackles for loss, adding one forced fumble, one pass break-up and one QB hurry.

Coming to USU from Glendale CC, Gurrola helped the Gauchos to an 8-2 record as a sophomore in 2008, posting 37 total tackles. He missed the 2007 season after logging 27 tackles with 3.5 tackles for loss including 2.5 sacks in helping Glendale to 8-3 mark and an appearance in the 2006 Valley of the Sun Bowl.

A native of Phoenix, Ariz., Gurrola earned all-region honors at Washington HS after posting 126 tackles and four sacks in his career.

Gurrola is finishing his bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies, and is expected to graduate in December, 2011.
