Jeff Hoover

Offensive Line Coach

UC Davis, `91

Entering his fourth year at Utah State is Jeff Hoover. Hoover came to USU after spending the previous five seasons as the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Portland State. He coaches the offensive line at USU. In his first two years Hoover's line helped pave the way for Emmett White, who ranked 13th in the NCAA in rushing in 2000 and 11th in 2001. In 2000, Utah State was ranked among the top teams in the nation by allowing just 15 sacks. In 2001, the Aggies were 14th in the country in passing offense.

Two Aggies earned all-Big West honors in 2000 under his guidance, including first-team pick Jeff Long and second-team selection Jim Walker. In 2001 Jim Walker was an all-independent selection. Heading into the 2003 season, one of Hoover's pupils, Trevor Hutton, is an Outland Trophy candidate.

Hoover, who joined the Portland State staff in 1995, coached two first-team all-conference linemen, who helped pave the way for first-team all-Big Sky running back and PSU career rushing leader Charles Dunn. The Vikings also boasted the nation's passing efficiency leader in Jimmy Blanchard in 1998. Two of his linemen earned All-America honors, including Bobby Singh, who played for the Super Bowl Champion St. Louis Rams and Moe Tauilo.

Additionally, three of his Aggie linemen have signed free agent contracts with NFL teams, including Jeff Long in 2000 (Jacksonville), Jim Walker in 2001 (Baltimore) and Jim Newton in 2002 (Indianapolis).

In 1998 Portland State led the Big Sky in total offense at 464.4 yards per game. While at Portland State, Hoover also served as the recruiting coordinator.

As a player at UC Davis, Hoover was a three-year starter and a two-time all-conference selection. He also wrestled from 1986-88. Hoover was raised in Chicago before moving to San Diego where he graduated from Monte Vista High School. He earned his degree in political science at UC Davis in 1991. Hoover and his wife Penny have one daughter (Lauren) and one son (Cole).
