Naufahu Tahi (pronounced Now-fuh-who Tuh-hee) is in his second year with Utah State serving as an offensive administrative assistant, and fourth year with the program as he also spent the 2013 and 2014 seasons as an offensive administrative assistant.
In his role, Tahi assists the offensive coaches with daily football operations, primarily working with USU offensive coordinator David Yost, and specifically working with the running backs along with special teams coordinator Mark Tommerdahl, who also serves as the team’s running backs coach.
Prior to joining Utah State’s football staff, Tahi spent the 2012 season as the running backs coach at Granger High School in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Before entering the coaching profession, Tahi spent six years in the National Football League with the Cincinnati Bengals, Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars.
Tahi began his career in the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals in 2006. Tahi also spent five seasons with the Minnesota Vikings (2006-10) where he played fullback and on special teams. Tahi then concluded his NFL career as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2012.
Tahi played collegiate football at BYU and led the Cougars in rushing as true freshman in 1999 with 445 yards. As a senior in 2005, Tahi had a career-best 872 rushing yards and scored eight touchdowns (6 rushing, 2 receiving).
A native of Fontana, Calif., Tahi prepped at Granger High School in Salt Lake City, Utah where he was a Prep Star All-American and named the USA Today Player of the Year as a senior. He earned all-state honors as both a junior and senior, and was a three-time all-league performer. For his prep career, Tahi rushed for over 5,700 yards and set the state record for rushing touchdowns.
Tahi, who served a two-year LDS Church Mission in Jacksonville, Fla., graduated from Utah State in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in sociology. He has five children: Maile (11), Lincoln (9), Jaden (6), Joscelynn (5) and Takai (2).
