Entering his fourth year with Mick Dennehy and his third year at Utah State is secondary coach Derrick Odum. Odum is no stranger to the state of Utah, having lettered for four years in football and two in baseball at Utah from 1988-92.

Odum spent the 1998 and 1999 seasons as the secondary coach at Montana after serving as a graduate assistant at Utah in 1996 and 1997.

At Montana he coached in the secondary and had all four of the backfield starters earn some sort of all-conference recognition in 1999. Safety Vince Huntsberger was the conference defensive player of the year, while Jason Miller and Damon Parker were second team choices and Calvin Coleman was an honorable mention pick.

In 1999, Montana was first in the league in pass efficiency defense.

Odum played cornerback at Utah from 1988-92 and also averaged 28.0 yards per kickoff return in 1992. He also was a centerfielder on the Ute baseball team for two seasons.

Odum, who was born April 22, 1970 in Baltimore, Md., and is married to the former Ania Homan. He earned his degree in political science at Utah in 1992 and is working on his master?s degree in sports psychology.
