Rob Takeno (pronounced Ta-kay-no) is in his first year with Utah State's football program as a graduate assistant coach for the Aggies' defense. In his role, Takeno will assist the defensive coaches with daily football operations, primarily working with the outside linebackers and linebackers coach Kevin Clune.
Takeno comes to Utah State after spending the past two seasons as the linebackers coach at Snow College as he helped the Badgers to the Top of the Mountains Bowl title in 2011 finishing with a 10-3 record and the inaugural Carrie Dome Bowl title in 2012 finishing with an 11-1 record.
In 2010, Takeno served as linebackers coach at Hillcrest High School in Midvale, Utah.
Takeno played college football at Southern Utah University (2005-09) where he was a four-year starter at linebacker earning first-team all-Great West Conference honors as a junior and senior, and second-team all-league honors as a freshman and sophomore. Overall, he led the Thunderbirds in tackles in each of his last three seasons and ranks second all-time in school history with 342 career tackles.
Following his collegiate career, Takeno spent the 2010 season playing professionally with the Fairbanks Grizzlies of the Indoor Football League (IFL).
A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Takeno prepped at Hillcrest High School where he earned first-team all-state honors as a linebacker as he helped the Huskies claim a pair of region championships. Takeno also won the state 5A wrestling championship in the 215-pound division as a senior and was also a letterwinner on the track team.
Takeno earned his bachelor's degree in exercise science from Southern Utah in 2009 and earned his master's in sports conditioning and sports performance from Southern Utah in 2011.
