Entering his fourth year at Utah State is Danilo Robinson, who coaches the defensive line, a position he excelled at as a player with the Aggies in the late 1990s. He also serves as recruiting coordinator. Last season Robinson coached defensive end Carl Singleton who had 7.5 tackles for loss with six sacks, as well as four forced fumbles, a mark that tied for the lead in the WAC and for fourth in the NCAA. In 2006, Robinson coached second-team all-WAC selection Ben Calderwood at defensive end. Calderwood led the USU linemen and ranked eighth on the team with 44 tackles, as well as second on the squad with six and a half tackles for loss. In his first year at Utah State in 2005, Robinson coached the USU tight ends and worked with the kickoff return unit, which ranked 13th in the NCAA with a 24.06 per return average. A former defensive lineman standout at USU from 1993-96, Robinson joined the Aggies' staff after working two seasons (2003 and 2004) as linebackers coach at UL-Monroe, under former USU head coach Charlie Weatherbie. While at UL-Monroe, he coached second-team all-Sun Belt selection John Winchester. After spending the 1997 season as a strength and conditioning coach at Utah State, Robinson began his coaching career at Navy under Weatherbie. From 1997-2001, Robinson worked at different times with the Midshipmen's linebackers, defensive line, offensive line and tight ends, while also serving as the junior varsity defensive coordinator. He then spent the 2002 season as the offensive and defensive line coach at Northview (Calif.) High School before being promoted to head coach for 2003. However, he returned to the collegiate coaching ranks before coaching a prep game. As a defensive end at Utah State, Robinson earned second-team all-Big West honors as a senior in 1996 after recording 103 tackles and 7.5 sacks. He still owns school records for single-game sacks with five vs. San Jose State in 1995 and tackles for loss in a game with six against the Spartans that day. Born Jan. 4, 1975 in Colon, Panama, Robinson graduated from Utah State in 1997 with a degree in political science and a minor in history. He is working on a master's degree in education from Azusa Pacific. He is married to the former Shelley Grupe who won back-to-back Big West Conference 400 meter titles while running on the USU track team. The couple have a son, Dylan.
