Fourth-year head coach Matt Wells welcomes back 12 starters (O-9, D-3) and 38 letterwinners (O-20, D-15, S-3) from last year's team that finished tied for second in the Mountain Division of the Mountain West with a 5-3 record, and played in its school-record fifth-straight bowl game.

In all, approximately 51 percent of USU's student-athletes earned a 3.2 GPA to qualify for the awards.

RECORDS: Played in 52 games during his Utah State career, which ranks tied for second all-time in school history along with B.J. Larsen, and trailing Jordan Nielsen, who played in 53 career games.
HONORS: Honorable Mention All-Mountain West (2014, 2015, 2016); Phil Steele Second-Team All-Mountain West (2015); Academic All-Mountain West (2014).
2016 (SR): Started all 12 games (eight at right guard, four at right tackle) and earned honorable mention all-Mountain West honors… Had an overall performance grade of 87 percent for the season... Graded out at 91 percent in effort, including nine games over 90 percent, 87 percent in assignment, including five games over 90 percent, and 79 percent in technique, including nine games over 80 percent… Recorded 49 knockdowns during the year, including a season-high eight against both Arkansas State and Weber State… Best game of the season was against Nevada (11/19) as he graded out at 93 percent.
2015 (JR): Started all 13 games at right tackle and earned honorable mention all-Mountain West honors... Was also a Phil Steele second-team all-conference selection... Had an overall performance grade of 74 percent for the season, which included four games over 80 percent... Recorded 43 knockdowns, including a season-high seven at San Diego State (10/23) and five at Fresno State (10/10)... Best game of the season was against No. 21 Boise State (10/16) as he graded out at 84 percent and recorded four knockdowns... Allowed just two sacks on the season.
2014 (SO): Started all 14 games at right tackle and earned honorable mention all-Mountain West honors... Had an overall performance grade of 80 percent for the season... Graded out at 82 percent in effort, including 11 games over 80 percent... Also graded out at 89 percent in assignment, including eight games over 90 percent, and 70 percent in technique... Finished the season with 48.0 knockdowns, including a season-high eight at Arkansas State (9/20), and seven against both BYU (10/3) and UNLV (10/25)... Best overall game of the season was against BYU as he graded out at 87 percent, which included 96 percent in assignment and 94 percent in effort... Earned academic all-Mountain West honors along with the team’s Iron Aggie Award.
2013 (R-FR): Played in all 14 games... Had his best game of the season against No. 24 Northern Illinois in the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl in his first career start as he played 47 snaps and graded out at 85 percent, including 85 percent in technique and 95 percent in effort... Also had two knockdowns against the Huskies... Graded out above 70 percent four times during the season and finished the year with five knockdowns.
2012 (RS): Redshirted during his first season at Utah State.
HIGH SCHOOL: Played offensive tackle and defensive end at San Ramon Valley (Calif.) High School… Named to first-team all-league, first-team all-East Bay and first-team all-Metro teams… Helped the Wolves to the North Coast Section (NCS) championship as a senior in 2011 after reaching the NCS semifinals as a junior… Anchored offense that averaged 263.9 passing yards and 155.4 rushing yards, while scoring 31.8 points per game... Posted 12 tackles as a defensive end, including 2.0 sacks as a senior, after 15 tackles with 1.0 sacks as a junior.
PERSONAL: Son of Jeffrey and Suzanne Simonich… Oldest of two children… Last name is pronounced Sie-mon-ich… Graduated from Utah State in the spring of 2016 with a sociology degree.
