Entering his third year at Utah State is Tracy Smith, who oversees the Aggie tight ends. Smith came to USU prior to spring practice in 2006 and is beginning his third year as a full-time assistant coach.

In 2006, Rob Myers led a trio of Aggie tight ends with 10 catches for 125 yards. Last season, Myers again led the tight ends corps, ranking second on the team with 21 catches for 320 yards and three touchdowns. Myers' 15.2 yards per catch average was the best among the nation's tight ends. He was named the John Mackey National Tight End of the Week on Nov. 21, 2007 after two touchdown catches at New Mexico State as part of his career-best 117 yards on four catches.

This season, Smith will mentor Myers, as well as talented tight ends Jeremy Mitchell and Tarren Lloyd, in addition to guiding Zac Zimmerman's transition from offensive line to tight end.

Smith spent 2005 as the offensive graduate assistant at LSU. In his position he worked with the Tiger quarterbacks under the direction of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Jimbo Fisher.

The Tigers won the 2005 western division SEC title with a 7-1 league record and were 11-2 overall, including a 40-3 win against Miami in the Chick-Fil-A Peach Bowl.

In 2005, LSU had the nation's 43rd leading scoring offense at 29.5 points per game and the country's 60th-ranked total offensive unit with 374.0 yards per game. Tiger quarterback JaMarcus Russell ranked 69th in the nation in total offense with 201.0 yards per game.

Prior to coaching at LSU, Smith was a restricted earnings coach working with tight ends and serving as the team's video coordinator at Stephen F. Austin. While there he worked with current Aggie wide receivers coach Greg Stevens and former USU offensive coordinator Mike Santiago.

"Tracy is a young, bright mind, who is going to be an up and coming coach," Guy said.

Smith is the son of Carl Smith, former offensive coordinator for the Jacksonville Jaguars of the NFL. Smith, who was born Feb. 23, 1982 in Beaumont, Texas, graduated from LSU with a business degree in the fall of 2003. He is married to the former Corey Guyott. The couple have a son, Troy.
