COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -
Utah State Head Coach Matt Wells
"I have lots of good feelings all the way around. We're always about team, it's not just about me, it's all of our guys. I think they did exactly what we asked them to do. Offensively we started fast, that was the plan and then we came out after half-time and had the defense make a quick stop and then we scored back-to-back, they executed the plan just like we wanted."
"The fake punt was a big turning point, big momentum changer. The defense had some big stops which helped us keep scoring."
"This win hasn't sunk in personally yet. What's special is that this was Utah State's first Mountain West Conference game. They not only played in their first MWC game but won their first MWC game, I told the team that is very special for them."
"I sensed the team was more motivated from last week's loss then who they were playing this week. Their focus and intensity was there and they were loose leading up to this game. Last week was an emotional game for us, but they had good focus in practice and were ready for today."
Air Force Head Coach Troy Calhoun
"I think we got thumped in every way that you can diagnose it. [Utah State is] a heck of a football team. I think there's no doubt, they're a top 20 football team. They've played that way, especially during the last two months of last year. They played like a strong, physically stout, athletic, highly-skilled squad [today], and we did an awful lot to contribute to that, too."
"In the first half, we did have a chance to make some plays that we didn't make. A couple of them, we [had a chance to] maybe to get a tackle for a loss, or a sack behind the line of scrimmage. Maybe make a couple of grabs that could have been touchdowns rather than field goals. But the way we came out the second half, you just couldn't have two teams that were further apart in the first 20 minutes of the second half."
"Whether it was a grab, a more accurate throw, or block better, or really being able to pound forward to gain a couple of hard yards, we didn't do that."
On Awini's fumble on the first drive:
"[He] got thumped...you just gotta know that if you're going to play a really good football team, it is gonna be a stern, aggressive, get-your-pads down hit. That was a chance to be a gain of three or four yards, and go to second and six. Instead, it's a fumble, they score quickly thereafter, and it's a 14-0 game."
