UTAH STATE FOOTBALL
Post-Game Quotes
vs. Air Force
Sept. 24, 2016

UTAH STATE HEAD COACH Matt Wells:
“That’s a hard loss. I hurt for those kids in that locker room. That locker room is really devastated right now, it might be one of the quietest I’ve ever heard since I’ve been here. I thought our kids fought, but I give credit to Air Force. They’re a good team and are well-coached, so congratulations to them.”

On seeing several injuries in the game:
“It’s hard for me, as a coach, to see any player go down with an injury. I know the dedication and the time those kids have put in in the off-season. It doesn’t matter who it is, my heart breaks for a kid when he gets injured.”

On the missed opportunities in the game:
“I think that maybe sums up the whole game. It was things in the red zone, allowing a kick return to get all the way brought back and put our defense on a short field. We had our eyes in the wrong spot a couple of times in the secondary. They had a couple of wide-open receivers. That happens in the option game, if you don’t have the eyes in the right spot. Certainly all three phases of the game contributed to the loss, but it was a hard-fought ball game. It was a good football game, and we thought it would be. It was competitive, they’re a good team”

On rebounding from this game:
“We’re going to get back in here and watch the tape and get back to work on Monday. One loss right now, the season isn’t over. It’s easy. These guys will compete. We’ll be back in here on Monday, it doesn’t have anything to do with winning a bowl game or winning the division. All this means is that we can’t go undefeated in the division or the conference. It’s motivation for them to continue to be better and improve and to keep working to win games in the Mountain West. It will be there, this bunch is too prideful.”

UTAH STATE SOPHOMORE WIDE RECEIVER Ron’Quavion Tarver:
“As a group, I feel like we played well, but we left a couple opportunities out there on the field to capitalize on and put the game up.”

On getting his opportunities tonight:
“Coach (Jovon) Bouknight just called my number, so I made a play. That’s what I’m supposed to do.”

On moving on from the loss:
“It hurts, but I can’t sit and dwell on it. We have to move forward and get ready for next week.”

UTAH STATE JUNIOR LINEBACKER Alex Huerta:
“I feel like the defense stepped up in some situations, but there is still room for improvement. We have such a high standard set for the defense. We strive on that. Overall, I think we played well.”

On the defense’s response in the second half:
“It was good. That’s just the defense and the mindset that we have here at Utah State. The way we came out is how we should come out all the time, but those guys played their hearts out.”

On helping the team rebound from the loss:
“There’s not really much I can say. If you just look at all those guys’ faces, it will just motivate you to get ready for next week. There’s not much to say, because they’re just going to be motivated to come back next week.

AIR FORCE HEAD COACH TROY CALHOUN:
“Forcing turnovers was a huge part of it. We gave them some yards, but we were able to hold them out of the end zone in the first half. In the second half we played really well defensively.”
