-- USU's game captains for Saturday: #1 junior CB Kejon Murphy for the defense, #48 junior TE Zac Zimmerman for the offense and #3 junior S James Brindley for special teams. -- Junior LB Paul Igboeli made his 26th consecutive start, which leads the team and his 26th overall... The senior tandem of OC Ryan Tonnemacher and LB Jake Hutton both made their 31st career starts, which are tied for the team lead. -- The first first down of the game came with roughly three minutes left in the opening quarter on a rush by sophomore RB Curtis Marsh, who fumbled but sophomore TE Doug Barbour recovered. -- Sophomore P Peter Caldwell punted five times in the first quarter, matching his combined punts from the previous two games (four vs. BYU, one vs. Idaho). -- USU's defense held an opponent scoreless in the opening quarter for the first time since the last time the Aggies played at San Jose State, on Oct. 14, 2006, a span of 23 games. -- The interception return for a TD by SJSU's defense was the first INT return for TD since Sept. 15, 2007 at Oklahoma... This is the third non-offensive score on the Aggies this season after two fumble returns (Utah on Sept. 13 and BYU on Oct. 3). -- The interception by senior CB Roy Hurst was his second in as many games as well as his second of the season... It was also the fifth of his career, tying fellow senior CB Caleb Taylor for most among active players.
-- USU converted its first third-down attempt in the fourth quarter, and reaching SJSU territory for the first time in the game... USU last went 0-for third-down conversions at Wyoming on Sept. 8, 2007. -- USU's third-down conversion percentage was its lowest since going 2-of-12 in the Utah game on Sept. 13. -- The Aggies' 10 punts Saturday were the most since 11 at Clemson on Oct. 16, 2004. -- Freshman RB Ronald Scott scored his first USU career TD with the catch in the fourth quarter. -- Utah State lost its third in a row to San Jose State as well as its eighth-straight game at San Jose State and the Spartans now lead the series 20-10-1 overall, including 11-3-1 at San Jose. -- After the five previous meetings had all been decided by one score and a total of 21 points, Saturday was the largest scoring margin since SJSU's 45-10 win on Sept. 4, 1976. -- Utah State has now lost its last eight games in the state of California, with the Aggies' last win on California soil coming in 1992.. USU is now 18-34-1 in California and is 50-59-2 all-time vs. teams from the state of California. -- Numerous Aggie alums past and recent were in attendance Saturday, including notables Len Rohde (1957-59), Sid and MacArthur Lane (1965-67), Larry Hogue (1978-81), Bryan Black (2003-04) and Kevin Robinson (2004-07). -- Additionally, former head coach John Ralston (1959-62) was San Jose State's radio color commentary, stepping in as a pinch hitter after SJSU's regular color commentator got sick... Ralston also coached SJSU from 1993-96. -- Also former strength and conditioning coach Mark Uyeyama (2004-07) was also in attendance, as he currently is an assistant strength and conditioning coach for the San Francisco 49ers. |
