LOGAN, Utah -
Utah State Head Coach Gary Andersen
"I'll be honest with you it does feel great to be bowl eligible, to be 6-2, and to win in a convincing manner at a home, that was a great accomplishment for the kids. I thought we executed extremely well on offense with the opportunity that we were given. I was really proud. I thought defensively it was not our best game. The kids take a lot of pride in the way they play defense. They scored seven points, but we've got some things to clean up."
"If all of the information I'm getting is true, this puts the senior class now in third-place all-time for most wins in a four class year. That's something to be real proud of."
On the difference between where the team is at this point in the season now as opposed to last season:
"Both teams are similar I think in the way we prepared, similar in the resolve and fight they have, but it's a very different feel to be 6-2 this season."
On the first play of the game, a 76-yard screen play from Chuckie Keeton to Kerwynn Williams for a touchdown:
"That play was blocked tremendously well by the wide receivers and blocked tremendously well by the offensive linemen.
New Mexico State Head Coach DeWayne Walker
On competing until the end of the game, even though it was not the outcome they wanted:
"That is the only thing we've got going right now. It's obvious; it's going to be a long season. One thing I'll say is these kids are fighting. It's discouraging for all of us, but as long as they don't give up, that is all I can ask. Again, not the outcome we wanted. We are going through some adversity, but life is that way some times. So, we've just got to learn from it."
On trying some innovative plays on offense:
"Yeah, we moved the ball. We've just got to score touchdowns. Against teams like this, you've got to score. On the positive end, we did move the ball, we did some good things. If you want to take some positives out of it, that's it."
On playing against an improved Utah State team:
"I don't think it's about today. It's about what they have done since he (Gary Andersen) has taken over. Today was an example of just building his program up and these are results that you get. He has great support, they are doing it right and he's on track to continue to be bowl bound and possibly win a championship this year."
Utah State Senior Running Back Kerwynn Williams
"From an offensive standpoint it was a great game. We executed the game plan well. It was a great day for us to continue doing what we have been doing. We are bowl eligible now early in the season. On the defensive side of the ball they played well, as usual, and they make it easy for us to call plays."
"We have learned to be consistent week in and week out and that's basically what we are doing in practice, knowing our assignments and executing.
Utah State Sophomore Quarterback Chuckie Keeton
"We definitely started out fast on offense but a better thing was we came out fast in the third quarter. We have been able to pick it up in the past two games and hopefully we can carry it out throughout the rest of season."
On his 76-yard touchdown run:
"It was funny. They were playing man and I was reading the defensive end and I knew they weren't keying in on me as much as Kerwynn (Williams) and as soon as I stared running I saw the corner stay locked on with Travis Reynolds and I ran behind him. The corner kind of paved the way. I was just happy to get into the end zone."
On already being bowl eligible:
"It's an amazing feeling, but now that we are eligible we have to keep setting higher goals. Our goals from the beginning of the season was being bowl eligible, winning a bowl and the WAC championship."
Utah State Senior Cornerback Will Davis
"Defensively we started off slow and that is something Coach Andersen addressed at the half. We were giving up way too many yards. With our offense scoring so fast and us getting back on the field, one thing you don't want to do is stand there too long so you have to come out a little faster and that is one thing we are going to focus on for the next game. Second-half, we gave up a touchdown but overall our effort was better. As a whole our defense played good but we have to step it up a little bit."
On his first career interception:
"It was long overdue. Since Colorado State, fans would tweet me "I feel it this time!" and I couldn't get it, but today it felt great for me and I know it felt great to the fans. I thank God for this opportunity and this time I definitely took advantage of it. When I got it I just went. I didn't know where I was going I was just running."
