Utah State vs. Texas State Post-Game Quotes Nov. 3, 2012Texas State Head Coach Dennis Franchione:
"It was a tough day. They're a good football team. Every one of our little mistakes get magnified a little bit more when you play a tough team like that. There were some breaks in coverage and they got a couple big ones."
On the second half:
"I didn't lay into them. I just told them that I thought they were better than what they played in the first half. We made too many mistakes. We had a drive or two, we just couldn't make any big plays. Their defense held Wisconsin to 16."
Utah State Head Coach Gary Andersen:
"Another tremendous victory. One thing we talked about as coaches was playing 10 weeks in a row without a bye and that's been a concern especially getting into games eight, nine and 10. We have tried to practice them the right way, but the credit goes to the kids for practicing the right way. We executed. We had 54 snaps defensively and gave up 158 yards against an option team. I thought we were very good. It took them a while to get use to them but after that the defense was not good, it was great."
"Tremendous victory to be at eight wins. I hope that will guarantee us a bowl and to be 8-2 at this time of the year is a special thing and I am very proud of these young men. I am humbled and very grateful to be their coach."
On Kerwynn Williams:
"Kerwynn, getting 1,000 yards. I can't say enough about him and what he has meant to this program. One-thousand yards is a great thing and the way he has handled his time here. He is a tremendous leader, a tremendous teammate and a tremendous player. My hat goes off to him. I am very happy he could get that 1,000 yards at home."
Utah State Senior Running Back Kerwynn Williams:
"The game was very well played on both sides of the ball. Our defense once again went out there and played hard throughout the entire game and showed why they are so highly ranked. I felt that on offense we played consistent through the first three quarters, but we need to step it up a little bit in the fourth. Two turnovers is definitely not a good thing. There are definitely some things that we can do to counter act that, but once again the defense had our backs and we put them in a bad spot."
How satisfying is it for you to break the 1,000 yard rushing mark?
"It is definitely satisfying. Not so much that I didn't get a lot of snaps before, but just to have all the hard work that I have put into this off season to get to this point, as well as the hard work that my teammates have put in to allow me to get to this spot. I feel like everyone is excited for me and I am really excited to have the opportunity to play week in and week out and to be able to accomplish this."
As players, do you feel that the bye week is coming at the right time?
"I think it is coming at a good time, considering who we are playing next. This is a big game; this next game could potentially be the WAC Championship game. I know it might be a little bit early for that, but this could definitely take us to the next step in accomplishing our goals of being the WAC Champions this season. I think that this extra time will be well utilized to study film and know who our opponent is, and definitely giving our bodies some rest. You know, ten games is a long road but this summer we prepared ourselves well for it."
Utah State Freshman Defensive End Jordan Nielsen:
"For the most part I felt like our defense played really solid. We came out and our first drive we started out a little bit slow, but once we just stepped it up we were solid for the rest of the game. We just trusted each other and hustled to the ball and people made plays."
Do you feel that this was your best performance of the season?
"I don't know. I played the technique better this game than the other games. It felt like they would let the defensive ends go more and they were trying to block our linebackers. So they would just read the defensive end and we came free most of the time."
What adjustments did you make after the first drive of the game where they moved it on you?
"We didnÂ?ft really make any adjustments, the coaches just told us to step it up and the rest of the game we stepped it up. They shouldn't be moving the ball down on us like that as long as we are hustling and playing hard. So we just stepped it up and just came out hard."
