LAS VEGAS, Nev. -
Utah State Head Coach Matt Wells:
"Wow! It doesn't get much more exciting than that or heart stopping, threatening for my health. First of all, to me, this is a true, consument team win. It is a prime example of how far this program has come and I will go back the last four years because, honestly, we did not play our best. We played well, in spurts, on both sides. We just didn't play our best and it starts with me. I didn't have them ready to play their best. To me, that's the ultimate team victory, because when you don't play your best you find a way to win; you find a way to make plays on both sides. So for that, I'm proud of those kids."
On JoJo's (#9 Bruce Natson) play:
"Outstanding performance by JoJo. I thought we were struggling on offense and to use him in some of that package he gave us a weapon. He showed up and players make plays, and that sucker made plays."
On installing the wildcat package this week:
"It was just a way for us to jumpstart the offense a little bit. It fits what we do. We've had it in. It was just the right time to use it."
On the miscues, such as running into the kicker and other penalties:
"Obviously, that was running into the kicker. You know, we had two touchdowns taken off the board before halftime. That's undisciplined play that we can't have and we haven't had all year."
On having a sixth win and being bowl eligible:
"We're not in a bowl and we haven't gotten a bowl invite yet, so we'll keep grinding away. I think again, that it's the mark of a consistent program, is that we want to get to November and we want to play for championships. We're 5-1 in the Mountain West and, I think, we're still in the hunt. So, that'll be the goal of this program: to graduate the kids and to compete for championships. Right now, we'll keep the blinders on and we're right in the championship hunt."
UNLV Head Coach Bobby Hauck:
"Congratulations to Utah State. They are a really good football team and they did a nice job tonight coming in here and getting that one. It was a great football game first of all. Just a really great game. There's all kinds of good stuff in it and well played by both teams. Obviously were disappointed not to get it and I'm proud of our guys, we played well and obviously needed another play or two to win. We had some key people in critical positions, especially on defense, that got banged up. Our special teams got banged up and weren't able to return and that obviously didn't help us a bunch, but you know it's got to be the next man up. We had a our chances and just weren't able to get it. Proud of our guys, loved the effort, we did a lot of good things, thought they did a lot of good things and it was just one of those games were they just made one more play than we did."
On the first drive of the second half ending with an interception in the end zone:
"Their corner undercut the slant route, which is kind of what we expected, and if he would have thrown it higher it's probably our ball. Their kid made a good play."
On if Utah State was giving UNLV good looks at the end zone at the end of the game:
"To a degree. They were giving us a decent dose of pressure and we like our guys in those matchups down the field. We knew that there would be a substantial number of those shots that we would take in the game into man coverage and they're pretty good in the secondary, they have a really good defense. We need to take those shots, it's man coverage, they're going to be on them and we needed to make plays. We made our share and they made their share."
