Post-Game Notes vs. Air Force (11/25/17)

TEAM NOTES
* Utah State had 521 yards of total offense, marking the fourth time this season it has produced at least 500 yards in a game.
* Utah State was 4-0 this season and had won 22 of its last 25 games with a 100-yard rusher prior to tonight’s loss. USU rushed for 237 yards in the game, its fourth-most this season.
* Utah State was 5-0 this season and had won 40 of its last 41 games when scoring at least 30 points prior to tonight’s loss.
* Utah State gave up its first sack in its last four games and has now allowed just two sacks in its last five games.
* Utah State’s 99-yard drive in the fourth quarter is tied for the longest scoring drive in school history. USU’s previous season-long scoring drive was 94 yards at UNLV.
* With its second quarter interception, Utah State has now forced 26 turnovers (15 fumbles, 11 interceptions) this season. USU has now forced 136 turnovers in its last 74 games, including at least one turnover in 57 of its last 74 games. USU has also recorded 64 interceptions in its last 61 games, including at least one pick in 32 of its last 61 games.
* Utah State scored on its opening drive of the game for third time this year also doing so against Idaho State (FG) and BYU (TD).
* Utah State had two runs of 70-plus yards in the first quarter, marking the second time this year that USU has had two scoring plays of 70-plus yards in the same game, as it had 70- and 75-yard touchdown passes at UNLV earlier this season. It is the first time in school history that USU has had two rushing touchdowns of 70-plus yards in the same game, according to available records.
* Redshirt freshman LB David Woodward (9) made his first career start tonight, giving Utah State 25 first-time starters this year, which ranks as the fourth-most in the nation.
* Captains for tonight’s game are senior RB LaJuan Hunt (21), junior OC Quin Ficklin (51), junior QB DJ Nelson (18) and sophomore NG Christopher ‘Unga (96).

 

 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER NOTES
* Sophomore WR Gerold Bright (25) had his first career 100-yard rushing game as he carried the ball a career-high-tying nine times for a career-best 102 yards. Bright also scored his second rushing touchdown of the season and third of his career on a career-long 75 yard run in the first quarter.
* Junior WR Aaren Vaughns (83) had his first career rushing touchdown in the first quarter on a career long 71-yard run. Vaughns finished the game with a career-best 69 rushing yards on two carries.
* Senior RB LaJuan Hunt (21) scored his 10th rushing touchdown of the season and the 17th of his career on an 11-yard run in the second quarter. Those 10 rushing touchdowns are the most by an Aggie in a single-season since Joey DeMartino had 13 in 2013.
* Redshirt freshman QB Jordan Love (10) tied his career-high with two touchdown passes, both in the fourth quarter, giving him eight touchdown passes on the season. Love finished the game with 284 passing yards, his second most this season.
* Junior WR Ron’quavion Tarver (1) had a career-high two touchdown receptions (24, 22), both in the fourth quarter, to give him seven touchdown receptions on the season and 10 in his career. Tarver finished the game with a season-high 86 receiving yards. Tarver is the first Aggie receiver to have a pair of receiving touchdowns in a game since the 2015 Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.
* Senior WR Braelon Roberts (88) had a career-high 64 receiving yards on three receptions.DJ Nelson (18) caught his first career pass for 20 yards.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER NOTES
* Junior LB Suli Tamaivena (42) had 1.0 tackles for loss in the first quarter, giving him a team-best 6.5 tackles for loss this season. Tamaivena finished the game with 11 tackles for his sixth double-digit tackle outing of the season.
* Redshirt freshman LB David Woodward (9) had 1.0 tackles for loss in the first quarter, giving him 3.0 tackles for loss this season. Woodward finished the game with a career-high 13 tackles.
* Sophomore LB Justus Te’i had a career-high seven tackles.
* Sophomore NG Mohelika Uasike (99) had a career-high seven tackles, which included 1.0 tackles for loss in the fourth quarter, giving him 2.0 tackles for loss this season and 2.5 in his career.
* Junior NG Gasetoto Schuster (56) tied his career-high with six tackles.
* Junior LB Chase Christiansen (48) forced his third fumble of the season and his career in the first quarter.
* Sophomore DE Devon Anderson (91) had 1.0 tackles for loss in the first quarter, giving him 3.5 tackles for loss this season.
* Redshirt freshman CB Ja’Marcus Ingram (36) intercepted his first career pass in the second quarter and returned it 25 yards.
* Senior CB Jalen Davis (13) had one pass breakup in the third quarter, giving him a team-best 13 this season and 35 in his career, to extend his school record.
* Sophomore CB Cameron Haney (6) had one pass breakup in the third quarter, giving him six this season and nine in his career.
* Junior LB Derek Larsen (49) had a season-high six tackles, which included his first sack of the season in the fourth quarter, giving him 1.0 sacks and 2.5 tackles for loss this season, and 2.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss in his career.

SPECIAL TEAM PLAYER NOTES
* Sophomore PK Dominik Eberle (62) was 5-of-5 on extra points tonight and is now 45-of-45 on extra points this season to rank fourth all-time in school history in both PAT’s made and attempted in a single-season.
* Junior P Aaron Dalton (89) had two punts downed inside the 20-yard line, giving him 21 punts this season and 67 in his career that have been downed inside the 20-yard line.
